Having moved from Colorado, friends have commented that I'm no longer near any "real" mountains. For the doubters, here's a small segment of a flight yesterday.
I'm glad you noticed. I was trying to do a steeper approach and then realized I was still pretty high and there was a slight tailwind (because of the runway slope, it's recommended to land on 32 and takeoff on 14), so slipped it in.Nice little slip there. Almost makes me miss flying fixed wing...

Well, PA28 anyway. 161 Warrior, technically. It really did the job, performance-wise.Cherokee 140 or 160 looks like.
I just flew one of those the other day for the first time! 4 people, a touch above half tanks, and still got up and went about 5-600 fpm. Yet another great product from Piper.Well, PA28 anyway. 161 Warrior, technically. It really did the job, performance-wise.

While I've never flown the Dakota, I have a few hundred hours in Cherokee 6s and Saratogas. So I know the feeling haha. When you try the Dakota the Warrior will feel like a toy............![]()
Been up there in the King Air once... Doesn't beat Elk River Airport though. That one is still my favorite. The approach over the mountain slope on 30 is one of the best times you will ever have mountain flying.
Did you have a client with a house in the development? My in-laws have a house a mile down the Elk, and it would be really convenient for us to fly up there...but I think my brother in law has tried to get permission and failed.
