Beech Staggerwing

Hm. According to a 7 page long topic on the AOPA forum it is ILLEGAL and STUUUPID for you to instruct in a plane that you've never flown before. The best you can do is log it as SIC, duh.
Well given that the average posters on the AOPA forums and *cough* POA hate CFIs in general, I'm not the least bit suprised.

They have their favorites (CFIs).... If you don't have as much grey hair as they do you're just another time builder trying to take their money, and couldn't possibly know what you're talking about. Besides, forming a 100 pg long thread, arguing about running LOP is much more productive.

I don't even waste my time in those places anymore. I got to spend enough time with the weekend warriors, not gonna do it online, for free.

The best part about ROP/LOP is that the radial engine people had all this figured out 70+ years ago, but flat packs don't have adequate fuel air distribution...inferior technology, right WacoFan?

This post brought to you by Beta. Beta: Chicks dig it.

Plus none of the geezers over there have a sense of humor (or I could just be part of the bizarre liberal nerdfest here. Take your pick).

You're young, therefore you (1) know nothing about flying and (2) must be a communist.

I enjoy watching the mess that ensues when one of the habitual offenders gets going. I spend some time on the purpleboard and it's not nearly as bad.

I love how you could be asking whether a cub or husky is better, and you'd shortly be getting a lecture on the P210 being the perfect airplane.

Yep. I have been called a snot nosed, pimply faced brat over there before for being a CFI in my 20s. Honestly, I find the retired FAA inspector to be one of the more practical posters over there. Go figure...

There was a topic there on how much headwind is too much to fly with. Went probably 10 pages deep before they read what I was saying, when I said 20 knots was my limit, when in an airship. They'd never see the airship part and argue with me for pages.

Then when you call them out as being obviously wrong, they just ignore you. Afterall, they have more life experience..

I still go there, because there are a few good people that post good things there. But it's mostly fluff stuff these days. Like the post some student pilot put up about how every aircraft should be required to have ADS-B and use FF/IFR, because big sky theory is bogus.

I may be off on this, but I believe at one time it was required to have time in type before giving dual. I say this because the old timer instructors I know are the ones that keep saying this is a requirement. It probably changed in the '90s.

I had this discussion with my old instructor once and after checking the regs, his comment was 'its still a good way to get 5 hrs solo in a nice plane'.

So...you gonna fly the Staggerwing?

It's the plan for later this summer. Customer is in the process of moving now. I explained from first contact that I would need flight time with the aircraft to gain experience with its characteristics, which he's fine with. If it works out it should be a very fun and unique experience. We'll see what happens. I dont get too excited about things until it's a done deal.

Bird Aviation Museum was restoring one a few years ago. Maybe you could get in contact with them and see if Dr. Bird can take you for a flight.
