My legs are killing me!

When ever I fly an ac50 or a c150 (older model where you sit on the hump) after about one hour the hamstring just above my knee is in MAJOR discomfort. In the ac50 I can at least move around a little bit. Any body else get this or know of a stretch that can help?

I was embarrassed by how sore I was after peddling a Cherokee 140 for 1.5 the other day. I've only ever sat in the middle in a C150.

You should do a variety of a couple of sessions of very slow and consistent hammy stretches in the morning after waking, again before you fly and afterwards and again in the evening. Here is a link to 12 good stretches: http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=12_hamstring_stretches_for_greater_flexibility

Mix them up, do like 3 or 4 different types per session and do them as I suggested a couple of times a day. The most important part is to hold in the stretch for a given time and keep repeating. Stretching is a slow process, not meant to be fast. If you start to feel pain while flying, stretch out your legs one at a time into the best straight position that you can and slowly just flex your foot all the way back towards your torso that you can, hold it there a few moments, then flex your foot all the way forward- pointing your toes away from you and hold it for several moments and repeat several times. I know it's cramped up front but you can try and put your leg out as straight as possible (move your seat back if you have to) and then just try and lean forward for a minute and feel the hammy stretching and hold it. Try a few of those as well.

Also try and walk with longer strides. I notice when I am tired and/ or my knees hurt, I begin to shorten my steps a lot. Hope this helps you some.

Yeah, like they said, try increasing your flexibility. Also, if you have a big wallet in your big pocket, try removing it for flights and consider getting a personal cushion if you haven't already.

That could be a number of things, but 2 things come immediately to mind. It could be sciatica, or muscle spasm. Both really suck, but seeing as how we sit a lot we're prone to them. I had a similar problem late last year that was accompanied by hip pain. Turned out that my hip flexor and t-bands were in serious spasm. When muscles go into spasm you feel it where they connect. Deep tissue massage worked it out. As was said before, stretching is good too. When you stretch, try resisting while you're in the stretch. For example: put either leg up on something to stretch your hamstring. When you feel the stretch, resist by pulling your leg down by using your hamstring and hold it for 10 seconds. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll gain.
