I feel differently. My goal is to retire with less than 10,000 hours and never miss a paycheck. Fewer hours in the air means more hours on the golf course.

I'm at that point...if I chose to pay for a country club membership. Instead, I choose to spend my dough at various courses around the area. I played 5 rounds of golf last week.

If you're a corporate guy, perhaps. Some of us airline wannabes would rather be very productive in terms of flying while we're working, then having plenty of days off not tied to a cell phone or worried about other duties.

I may very well lose the game, especially if/when there's some real movement in this industry. A lot to be said for being truly 'off' when you leave the airport.

3600 or so. I'm on the TFaudree_ERAU plan. I think I've averaged maybe 400 hours a year as a professional pilot. Current job pays me alright. #winning

To add, what helped me get into a good job was networking and having a varied resume, rather than just bulk flight time.

A friend of mine is a Lear 35 SIC. Guess how many hours they fly the jet per year? Less than 50. His second job is instructing and he actually spends more time instructing than he does at his real job.
