Unknown origin of part of AP system on a Chieftain

We regularly have our AP decide to not go where it's supposed to or not capture something.
It goes like this - Ah the AP found that bottle of whiskey I hid for later. Damn... well you can go home now, I'll fly.
And just like that we don't die.
Unless you're sleeping up front you should notice it doing things wrong.
Of course.

My Point is, it's a distraction that you don't need, though. (And it's not that hard to get it right to begin with, interface and documentation wise.)

Green needles is Vloc and magenta is gps. Or on the old efis, white was gps. On the pa31's I flew with gps that could be slaved to the HSI, you had the VLOC/GPS in the bottom corner of the 430 and an annunciator just to the left of the six pack.

I still don't see the distraction. Especially for a multi-crew aircraft. Heck just heard one crew nearly miss their descent today because both pilots were troubleshooting something. (ATC had to remind them) and forgot to fly the plane. If you ask me an auto-pilot can allow for more distractions while it is properly working.
