In Anchorage for the day...what to do?

I'll wait another two or three months before I really consider heading up. It's finally getting warm here after all.

We are going to Portage glacier tomorrow. Fairbanks Thursday. Any recommendations for things to see or do in Fairbanks?

Also, what fix do I file between ANC and AFA to be able to see McKinley?

PS: I've been awake 20 hours and I can't sleep because I can't get my hotel room dark enough.

Thanks!

IIRC there's a VOR for Talkeetna, which is the airport is that's pretty much on base of Denali.

In Fairbanks go have dinner at the Pumphouse on the river and watch the seaplanes come and go. Or drive a bit further north to Fox and have steak at the Turtle Club. Hop on the highway and drive south about 20 minutes and visit the town of North Pole. There's a pretty decent Salmon bake there in Fairbanks as well but I don't recall where, sorry. Not really much for sights.

I'll be in Fairbanks all Thursday. Shoot me a pm with you're schedule.

And ya. Talkeetna VOR is close enough. You'll be way the hell above it in the lear though.

Made it to Fairbanks this morning and then was called back to Anchorage. Sitting here now waiting for a decision from ops as to whether we are going back to Fairbanks for the night or to Spokane. Hurry up and wait!

Pump house was a good suggestion. Thank you! Place would be awesome when it's warmer and the deck overlooking the river is open.

Headed back to the lower 48 early tomorrow.

You can rent a bike by the bay and then ride it along the path all the way to the airport so you can watch the airplanes come in overhead...if the winds are right. I did this about 3 years ago, it took about 40 min or so to bike it if I remember correctly.
