Flight delays pile up Monday after FAA budget cuts

They're not punishing me. I get paid by the minute.

No, but if they throw a temper tantrum, it slows the whole system down, effects pilots, passengers, etc. Like I said, if they are mad, project that anger at the proper place. Their elected officials, not the system.

The only way to get the elected officials to give a damn is to get their constituents mad as hell. Only when they worry about reelection do politicians care. A slowed down system is a great way to get the constituents to rise up. Probably the only way.

Is this happening somewhere? Or are you just taking that earlier poster's word on it?

Start here, and read about the next 10-15 posts. Seems like some are stomping their feet, some are just dealing with the issue and making it work the best they can. Remember, this is an outsider looking in.

Do you think that the FLL airport was running OK before the controller cuts took place?

I don't know. I haven't been there in about 2 years. But two years ago, it was running pretty smooth. I remember being close enough on a parallel approach to just about see the passengers in the Airbus next to me. We were landing to the east that day. I was in a chieftain.

To begin they are down to one runway for the next few years.

Hence why DPApilot was being a little dramatic with his reasoning.

Yeah I read the thread and I still don't see the "stomping."

"We were told that due to budget cuts and staffing that we had to remain clear of class C and B airspace and that any flight plans which penetrated the airspace would be denied no matter what, they also denied us any flight following services whatsoever."

Kinda seems like a temper tantrum to me.

I don't know where this "quote" came from, but I'd bet that's an isolated incident and it needs to be reported.

One runway ops at FLL would necessitate larger arrival gaps to get departures out, especially if they've lost the ability to use Line Up And Wait. LUAW requires an additional controller in the operations area at many facilities.

Also, I don't know what their IFR release situation is with Miami approach. If they have to call every time, or if they normally have automatic releases. Either way, a reduction in staffing at Miami Approach could affect FLL tower's ability to move airplanes, in addition to FLL losing staffing themselves.

I'm not saying that's the situation, but I think we deserve a little more credit than being accused of stomping our feet because things run more slowly when we're short staffed. I can assure you, nothing pleases us more then moving airplanes off our frequency as fast as possible. If you were working a checkout line at a retailer, would you consciously want the line to build ever larger while the occupants got more and more pissed?

SJU-FLL b4 the whole situation we are in now, we got a hold at 6pm.
LGA-FLL at 8am over NY center they gave us vectors and speed restrictions due to volume at FLL.(We held down there too later).
FLL-JFK at 8pm. We were about number 10 for takeoff and it took us almost 45 min to get out of there(2 planes went back for more fuel).

I'm not the one who brought up stomping any feet. I was simply saying if they were, they meed to use the proper channels.

Well they're not, so hopefully it continues that way.

So this is all one big hypothetical? An answer to question that wasn't even asked?
