Meigs - 10 years later

It's weird to see it sit there with nothing going on. Just a bike path and some grass. Hopefully Friends of Meigs can find enough private donors with deep enough pockets to turn it into an airport once again.

You're kidding right? Daley broke the law and paid one million dollars to say I'm sorry. What could have AOPA, EAA, or any other host of organizations done to stop this?

In the article it said that the government has funds allocated for new airport development, maybe they will turn it back into an airport. How ironic would that be after how it closed.

I think the topic was posted in memory of Meigs seeing as this is the 10th year since its' closure. It's extremely upsetting to see that they got away with this. It's hard to believe it's been 10 years!

They sure did! They made it so hard for Daley to legally close the airport, that he had to do it illegally. They then campaigned successfully for the law to be changed to increase the penalties for breaking it.

It's unfortunate that the penalties were so light, and that they were placed upon the Chicago taxpayers rather than on Daley himself.

I guess it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask permission.

I took this photo of the area where Meigs once stood in 2011 when we had a blimp contract with TBS for Conan O'Brien's show. You can see the peninsula at the twelve o'clock position in between the nose lines. Such a shame.....
