Piper Seminole Seats....

Question to anyone who has flown the Seminole.... I am a 6'3, 230lb guy...not exactely small. I find the seat on the Seminole to be unusually narrow. In addition, the cushioning on the 2000 models is very soft. As a result, when I sit in the plane, the cushion depresses and I find the metal seat frame (on the right side) digging into my backside a great deal. After about an hour of flying it becomes pretty unbearable.... I have tried several seat cusions to aid. They do help, but are not perminant solutions. They simply delay the oncoming uncomfort. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

i had that same problem with the older models. i found a cheap stadium seat pad that i used for my training it seemed to help me a lot and didnt notice the butt pain. oh and im 6'2" and 250..

I had that problem on the older ones as well.... At the end of the day, it's not meant to be a comfortable airplane. During the XC days, I'd bring a large blanket to fold up that worked OK.

They are replacing a bunch of the worn (2000) seats with new leatherish ones. Honestly, I like the stock seats better. Less padding but you sit lower and further back.

Im 6'4 and 220lbs, and my advice after 6 years and 4000 hrs is, get used to it, airplane seats suck. Im convinced they were designed by sadist midgets some time in the early 50s and havent changes since. The one exception being the Caravan, nice roomy cockpit, with big seats with lumbar support, and cupholders, gotta have cupholders.

I'm going to start bringing one of these (at age 26, even) for the Brasilia, whose seats are just worn out.

I've heard of CFIs getting hip trouble in the Seminole which goes away with a switch to a Cessna for a while. I think because it's like a bucket seat with cold hard metal unless you have a thick cushion you really feel it after a few 4 flight 12 hour days.

Not seen anything from the left seat but then how long do us multi addon people actually spend in it...

To revisit this old thread, the seats in the gulfstream are phenomenal.
After 600+ hours in the 450, my butt would strongly disagree, especially for flights over about 3 1/2 hours. It's definitely nicer than the Lear 60, but I would not call it phenomenal.

Oh, and holy necropost, Batman!! :D

I haven't flown the 450, but the III is "phenomenal" only relative to the jagged metal slats with 40 year old foam on them that I was previously used to. I especially like the way the front of the seats folds down so if I take my shoes off I can stretch my legs out over the rudder pedals. I agree with you they definitely start to suck on those long legs. Beats riding in the back though.
