What is wrong with pilots

Low on the totem pole right now with the two in front of me about to leave. In like Flynn. Been flying when neither can make a flight. I'm being sarcastic on the loans. It's manageable. Just trying to avoid regionals at all cost. May have to at some point and probably will have to. :( I know everyone has to do what they have to do and for some its no fun. I'm enjoying what I do. It's not the way I saw it when I started on my private, but it works for me. You know things are interesting when the day you get your CFI, your first instructor is there to congratulate you and tells you he just took a desk job with an insurance agency. I've been fighting everyday since then not to encounter the same situation. It's tough no matter what you take. Just have to try and stay positive somehow. For me, every time I take off I'm reminded why I'm doing this.

You're thinking right in the short term money wise if you can find something that pays. It's off the beaten path where you'll find the money in the short term. Aerial survey is where it's at for low timers. The guys that worked with me with student loans knocked out a third of their debt in one season.

There is a lot that corporate can't offer that a major can. There is no one size fits all. Fly corporate for 5 years and get back to me how great it is.

That's why I said "depending on what you want". If what I want works out, no other job, aviation or not could touch it.

Maybe he's right seat in the corp piston? If he's on a jet, then either he made terrible financial decisions regarding college or is part of the problem, and I have no sympathy whatsoever.
Not on a jet. No bad decisions. You have taken a sarcastic remark and run pretty far with it. I thought I cleared that up if you'd read the second post. I'm in a position with what was a small company that is growing pretty quickly. What is me flying the CEO in a Cirrus will become a jet in the next year. As far as getting a degree in college I have two. I double majored in Business and Aviation. Definitely no regrets on that one. Escape plan is there if needed otherwise makes for a stronger résumé. Not really sure what you meant by I am part of the problem. I don't need sympathy. I'm not financially where I would like to be, but from what I can tell most of us in aviation aren't swimming in cash with four cars in the garage. Just a guy with lower hours and a plan. Anything wrong with that?

What do you want?
To be home just about every day, live in/near my hometown, stability, and enough pay to feed my expensive hobbies. Oh, and to keep flying errpranes. :) I know there's a lot of crap corporate jobs and even more crap charter jobs, but there are a few gems out there.

To add to what z987k said, if a jump to the majors out of corporate is a move up, you're doing corporate very VERY wrong depending on what you want/need. If flying a building is above all else, then corporate won't do it for you I guess. :D

My purse is ready

Uh, no. Not even close. There are a lot of really crappy corporate jobs out there, far more than there are good ones. Having flown charter, corporate, and the airlines, I'd say your chances of getting a good job with QOL and pay are much better with the majors than a corporate gig.

My favorite saying is this... The best pilot job in the world is some type of corporate job. The worst pilot job in the world is also some type of corporate job.

Might as well pick up a Powerball ticket on the way home, too. ;)

Just kidding...best of luck to ya, but you may have to sift through a lot of crap to find this level of princess gig!

That's great, I sincerely hope it works out like you think it will. However, never count on it. There are MANY of us out there that have heard the old "We're DEFINITELY getting a bigger airplane/jet next year!" I got the same line, only to be strung along in a stagnant career until I bailed.

Thanks...That is one thing I am being cautious about. I really like where I'm at, but I can't afford to invest everything in this one company. As long as I can still build time I will, but if that stops or there is no longer career building opportunities here I'm gone.

I have a very specific company in mind. ;) They've got 3 guys that are going to retire soon. Soon is looking like 2-3 years and then a few more after that. Trying to time my turbine time building to get a resume to them ASAP. They want 1000TPIC.

Oddly enough, a place as "crappy" as Ameriflight checks most of the boxes except for the pay and always working nights, but the guy that's flying the run is a weirdo and has been doing it for 6 years! He's not going anywhere.

GypsyPilot, yes, that is true. 121 is the most consistent. That's why I said you're doing it wrong if a move is an upgrade, because like you said, the best job COULD be a corporate job. :)

Smart move. You never know, it could certainly be an awesome spot to be. One of the kids I taught to fly is now a chief pilot on a part 91 Hawker, makes WAY more than I ever have, even when I was an engineer. He's not even 23 yet. It's a strange business, aviation.
