Meteorologist to Dispatch

Just received an offer from Republic. Mulling it over....

Worried about the pay cut I'm taking to transition into this new career, but trying to keep my eye on the bigger picture and long term potential. I know you gotta start somewhere. Thoughts??

You have to think of the big picture when starting out in this career. If you can skate by for a year on whatever they are offering you, it will be worth it! I've only got 6 months experience at a 121 Int'l Supplemental and just got a job making more $$. In another year I'll be set to get on with a major. Pinching pennies now will pay off! Good luck!

Congrats on the new job! Can you say where you got on yet?

Thanks Manniax! It's a new SOC opening in Sarasota called Aeropartners. I'll be dispatching a/c for Nordic Global which is based in HEL. (Not hell...lol). The owner is also starting up another cargo airline by mid April that will be based here in FL. So I'll be dispatching a/c for both airlines. It's more 121 Int'l Supp experience for me so I'm stoked about that. Plus I get to be a part of setting up the whole operation and think I'll gain valuable experience and knowledge through that process. Hoping for the best!

Been wanting to post about this but had to wait till it was official. Thanks to everyone for your advice, encouragement and support along the way. Ryan closing was difficult to be sure but another door has opened for me. Yay!

Speaking of Ryan, AstraJet purchased their certificate and from what I hear, they are supposed to begin operations by mid April. With one a/c... Hmmm...

Congrats, just had my interview in IND with Republic. Spent more time shadowing a Dx in their SOC then I spent in the interview so I am crossing my fingers. Two of my three flights were delayed so I didn't get back to HNL until 2am today, but at least I got picked up by a limo!

I rode the limo too. I was all by myself in the back for the entire ride, and I ended up scooching clear up to the front to chat with the driver. Seems weird to me that they use a limo service.

I accepted an April 1 class date, but I'm having cold feet. So scared to take a large pay cut and move my family to start a new career. It's been a long few days at my house.... ;)

You gotta start somewhere...and Republic should be good experience. With your met background you probably will be able to get on with a major in less than 2 years. Change is always scary though. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
