Jet Blue Flight Diverted due to Unruly Passenger

Nothing like being placed on the no fly list for being a moron. She won't have to complain about another ticket price again.

This woman had a flight diverted because she was pissed about paying more for a seat then her seatmate???? Are there different levels of escalation that airlines follow before diverting a flight? Its odd they would divert over this but whatever. I hope they sue this lady for gas money.

It is up to the PIC and is a judgment call. If the air marshal got involved I would say it was serious. Although I disappointed the charged were dropped. People that cannot act like adults and realize life is not fair need to be held accountable for their childish actions. She should also be banned from flying for at least a year.

By doing nothing the airlines just encourage more idiots to behave like this.

Or worse, a deadheading crew member. "Not only am I flying for free, they are paying me to sit here."

Or like the old days SA as a teenager. $17 ORD-HNL first. Oh yea, I'll have the trout with white wine please.

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

I would think that anytime an Air Marshall gets involved its an immediate diversion.

I'd agree. They generally don't get involved until it reaches a certain level. If it reached that level, I'm upset the charges were dropped, too. Maybe they should have just duct taped her to the seat?

Automatic? Maybe not. But we've all got about the same security manuals that say the same things. I'm having to dance around SSI stuff here, but you know what I mean when ya look at the levels. When is a FAM supposed to get involved? When is a divert necessary? According to what we've been told (and this was true at both airlines I've worked), there's a place those two cross. If I were the CA and a FAM was getting involved, my brain would jump to the level where they get involved.

Plus, I can guarantee you the CA didn't just decide to divert on his own. There are likely multiple AIRINC transmissions floating in space between him and other departments before that decision was made.
