Purchased for an undisclosed amount by the CEO of Oklahoma City-based US Fleet Tracking who intends to spend $2.4 million to build 80 hangars ($30,000 apiece?) and $1 million on terminal building improvements. It's uncontrolled and has a single concrete runway 5,001 x 100 with two RNAV & two LOC approaches. It's five miles beyond the KOKC Class C overhang, and at the edge of the KPWA controlled airspace. Pilots based there are typically referred to as "cowboys" because they don't use the radio, don't fly standard patterns, and the aerobat pilots put on airshows whenever they want without notice.

Why does somebody buy an airport these days?

When I saw the thread title I expected to see it was sold with plans to convert it into a stripmall/condos/homes/golfcourse. Be glad its remaining an airport.

I think this is the place where the self-service fuel pumps are constructed somewhat like a big-rig pull-thru car wash. The fuel nozzle and hose are supported overhead by a swing-arm much like that at the car wash. Definitely made it a lot more convenient than dragging the hose across the ground from one side of the plane to the other.

The locals are already known for making noise complaints so this will be interesting when traffic increases. I'll be surprised if the local Gub'ment will allow all of the "plans"..

They might do well to start a part 61 flight school there. The academies at PWA are a little over-the-top when it comes to renter checkouts, and the nearest besides those is Chickasha Wings, I believe.

Sounds about right. The only ones I know of are the two at PWA and Chickasha. There are posters for smaller "ma and pa" type schools if you look around the terminal building and the FBOs, but nothing part 141. I'd even like to see another school pop up at OUN. That would be interesting.

Yeah, or just some place where I could feasibly rent an airplane from at OUN, annoying that even though I'm a student here, OU won't let you near their planes unless you're an aviation major.

You can always save up and drop $1,000 on their aerobatics class. It would be a non-credit class so I don't think you have to be an aviation major. That would be about the cost of 7 or so hours doing boring stuff. At least with the class you get to try some new stuff.
