Interesting Article about China's Economy

Remember who had a budget surplus?

<--- This guyyyyyyyyyyyy! :D

Whats that got to do with Obama's spending spree?

The way Obama is spending, this would add just another trillion to the already 16, yes SIXTEEN trillion in debt we already have.

So, no biggy.

Yes, debt under Obama is the highest, but he's also one of the lowest spenders since Eisenhower. Check yo' facts:

Edit: Just saw your other post. Obama's spending spree? Excuse me? Please read the article I just posted.

It means that unless Obama managed to spend 16 trillion dollars in four years (he didn't), there must have been some other guy in the oval office for 8 years that turned that surplus into a mighty large deficit. How come I never hear you complaining about HIM? ;)
Because he's not the president.

This is what you said:

Everything in China is a façade designed to foment the image of prosperity within the global mindspace. Everything in China that they point the cameras at looks pretty, because you see it from the front. Huge buildings, daring architecture, technological magnificence ... but behind the scenes there are people paid to stand in one place and hold up the foundations all day long ... and that's only slightly metaphorical.

I took issue with the everything comment because that is just not true as I have explained. Improvements in the quality of housing; roadways; railways; and airports is not a facade. Better food and nutrition; better schooling; better healthcare; etc are not just a facade.

I don't think I am. I foresee them becoming a powerhouse, but mostly because they're playing on the faults of an economy (ours) that's increasingly built on the short-term greed of the wealthy. As long as the wants of the few outweigh the needs of the many, we will be politically vulnerable. They're playing a rather cohesive long-term game of strategy while we whittle ourselves away with divisive little short tactical gambits.

That is my point, and that is my focus.

That I agree with 100%

I think you too my everything a bit over-broadly. Granted, I did use the word 'everything', but I intended it in the context of the prior discussion, which is an outside-in point of view.

I think we're more or less on the same page.

I see what you're doing. You're trying to belittle me by trying to make me out as some kind of kook. But what I wrote is true, Obama Care will cost at minimum 1.2 trillion. It's a fact, not a conspiracy. That number comes from the C.B.O.

You're still new to the forum so I'll cut you some slack. But you might not want to start off by insulting other members.

I'm not trying to belittle or insult you, it's all in good spirit. You're taking it too seriously. But just like I provided a bunch of links backing my point up earlier in the post, only to have you ignore the content of what I said, I essentially did the same to you. You're absolutely right, Obamacare will cost the numbers you quoted, and I know they're absolutely right. But where I joke about it being a conspiracy is when you then go on to use hyperbole and say "We're all doomed" sounds a little like "the sky is falling".

We have different views, but luckily we live in a democracy where we are allowed to fundamentally disagree with each other. "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

I often find myself disagreeing with Turk... about almost everything in fact. That doesn't stop us from 'liking' each others posts and treating each other with mutual respect (the saxophone playing Clinton pics are all in good fun :) ). In my opinion that's one of the greatest aspects of JC that sets it far above other online communities, is this common willingness to put differences aside and treat each other with civility - even in the fiercest of "lav" debates. We may have been 'losing our way' a little bit recently, but I don't think that aspect of this place will ever change.
