"It's not always about the pay, I have a lot of friends who are airline pilots, and they love it."

I used to have a crash pad right back in the day across the street from the terminal at Yuma, just about a 1/4 miles down Avenue F that runs along the north side of the field. Shared it with some Mesa 1900 guys and a couple of Wings West Jetstream guys. Got to know the area real well! :)
We stay at the mall now, which is officially "not bad." But the hotel we stay at itself has seen better days. I do like the Yuma station and on one of my PM trips I might actually get out some.

Wings West later became a part of American Eagle (instead of Wings West, an American Eagle carrier) right?
Too many 1900 guys in the same area means your probability of finding a dead hooker skyrockets.

Ruh roh, where's Gulley been? I know he's a Slaab jockey now, but old habits die hard.

Correct. They, Flagship and Simmons all became one under the American Eagle name....late '90s timeframe, maybe '98 or so. Executive stayed by itself, IIRC.

I'm not sure if it's just how it worked out for us this month, but I have four (count 'em, four) long-ass BFL overnights this month. I'm not overly happy but it beats reserve. And three of them have Yuma overnights too. The other one has a (long) one at headquarters.

(It's still better than reserve.)

At least there's a chipotle near the hotel! BFL is weird though, I always feel like I'm going to get in a fight there. You can just feel the white trash anger in that town.

Yes, I have that feeling too. Plus the smell of cow crap and fracking/oil is kinda gross.

Uh huh. Any how many fresh pilots will be flying any of those? I'll take a guess at right around 0. You're still going to have to slog it out in some POS for a couple thousand. And that big steaming POS will have something akin to a six pack, and if you're lucky a FMS/GPS type thing that slaves to the HSI.
And sucks at holding patterns.

I do it for layover money. Less dangerous than dining and dashing at the kebab joint in Istanbul.

LOL They give the death penalty over there for a DUI and have a debtors prison for your wife if you max out your credit card. As for Ohio every May when it breaks 70F theres a channel 6 news segment of "dude we went to fire up the AC and... wtf'!"

Not to mention the wonderful aroma of fields of veggies (especially the cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli) sitting and baking in the summer heat from hell.

There are some terrific Basque restaurants out there though. If you can, check out Noriegas, Narduccis or Wool Growers.

Yuma - Julieannas Cafe, Eduardo's, Asian Star

Fortunately, it's wintertime.

As long as you stay in the protected area, no one cares.
Precisely. I've had better luck steering it around on the heading bug, honestly.

Lets go forage for copper tubing!

The lights on the train bridge at APC had been out for nearly a year. I asked the airport ops guy what was up and he said "oh the tweekers took all the copper wire."

Next to the "Tell us about the time you punched a grumpy in your flight bag" thread on FI, the "Crappy Hotels" thread was the next best.
