Renting an airplane in China?

My wife and I will be in China later this coming year for a couple weeks and I just had a passing curiosity, is it possible to rent a single engine airplane in China for an hour, just for the fun of it? I would obviously have a local instructor handle the details. Is this something that is even possible? Would it be cost prohibitive? I know there are a few expats teaching over there on this board. I'm just curious what's possible at a high level right now.

As far as I know it is not possible to rent a plane in china. General Aviation is almost not existant, The govt controls just about everything and most of the airspace is restricted. Flight Schools dont exist in china like they do here. One of the reasons why almost all Chinese pilots do their training here in the US.

This.

Negative. I just got out of the 141 world in China, and unless you're part of a curriculum course you can not rent an airplane. The military wouldn't justify you taking an airplane on a sightseeing flight. You would be considered a spy... then shot and killed. :)

Welcome to China! 欢迎光临!

Hey, just wondering what you mean by the 141 world in China? I lived in Wenzhou for a little over a year and would love to eventually take my wife back there and make some decent money in an aviation related job. 当让要会去!

Not mainland China but they have a flying club in Macau and one in HK, I think the one in Macau has even seaplanes..

Thanks for the info, I expect we'll be in HK for part of our visit, so I'll see if that might work.
