Skywest stolen plane video (Utah)

It's a sad story all around. As I thought, and someone suggested on the JC Facebook page, he may have not turned on Nose Wheel Steering. It just looks an awful lot like he was intending to go somewhere else besides a parking lot...

Nope. However, they are government camera's, which mean the people own the tapes. This is the downside of CCTV everywhere. It's now standard procedure for the media to file freedom of information requests as soon as anything happens, just in case something was caught.

Imagine a C-17 power reversing next to a terminal... You'd suck the skirt off every chick within 50 yards of that window... :-)

Why did you have to roll forward a few feet before deploying the reversers?

Ive seen AA do it with a DC9-80 out of LGA.

I remember being in the back of an AirTran DC-9 in ATL and doing the same thing. Sounded like an application of forward thrust, followed by a short roll forward, braking, and then reversing.

Is it some sort of system limitation; T/R logic has to sense forward wheel speed before being allowed to deploy?
 
Sad to see this all brought up again. Today's news media is not news at all. They are mostly all pompous asses looking to dig at peoples emotions for ratings.

Nothing with systems logic. Just need to get the airplane off the flat spots that develop during loading. Also often times the asphalt begins to sink where the wheels are always parked, so you power forward to get on some flat pavement.

Those engines aren't nearly as strong in reverse, so it helps getting those wheels moving. Wearing goggles and getting smacked in the face with broken zippers while eating jet exhaust was pretty awesome.
 
It just really sucks that any news station looks at a dude's terrible mental state and ultimate suicide as a way to gain viewers....
