Skywest stolen plane video (Utah)

I know an old dc-9 pilot who said they always pushed back with thrust reversers back in the day, according to him the practice stopped due to windows in terminals getting blown out.... no clue if that's true

They used to power back up until a few years ago.

I wonder of they are making screen doors out of that jet yet?

Impossible to determine his intentions other than destroy a commercial aircraft and kill himself.

Looking at Google Maps, it appears that he was trying to drive off the ramp through the rental car lot, and then off the airport?

I'd guess it has more to do with FOD on the engines than terminal glass dangers.

I remember the days of the powered pushbacks. I always wondered what it was like to backup a jet when you can hardly even see the wingtips, much less anything else behind you.

Escape himself/conscience, life on the run, and being held accountable for murdering his gf maybe? Candidly, I think that would be the best place to start, and exit the "motive" question.

Fuel costs, fuel costs, and more fuels costs. It was the equivalent of adding an extra takeoff to each flight just to leave the gate. Not to mention now you had two engines running and once you started both, most guys don't want to shut one down.

Fun times though, we used to do turning powerbacks as well. That would get a little hairy sometimes and I'm always amazed that the captains put so much faith in their rampers. I'm guessing that with the majority of rampers today, that just wouldn't happen.

So if she weren't hot, it would have been somewhat less "doosh"-like?

I'm just bring it up nicely before someone else brings it up and takes you to task! :)

Good call Dough, that's a pretty shallow outlook on life when "hottness" directly correlates to one's right to live or die. ;)
Also I saw your JC facebook post, and the news made a big point to say "We know it says 'do not distribute,' but that was from before they granted us the FOIA request." Sounds legit to me.
