Who said anything about inflation? OK, now you have misquoted, referred to us as yahoos and labeled scientific facts as stupid, I reserve the right to say that you are rude, misinformed and quick to jump to misinformed conclusions. I hope you are better in the cockpit; thankfully I won't have the opportunity to determine that! Have a good day.

The good folks sent people to help this weekend, just like we went to help in 2005. It is now freezing (32 degrees in northern areas) here. People have no heat and no power. some have no place to live. Another nor'easter is coming Wednesday, so more power may be lost.

Yes it was a cat 1, but it was 800 miles wide so it hit more areas. And it hit at high tide with a full moon. The surges were incredible. The winds were not a significant player.

Perhaps you don't know where to go, because you've painted yourself into a corner and can't support your position. You can simply recant your position that most liberals are saying that humans are causing all global warming. That would be the high road, but I suspect you aren't really interested in that, because you took the wrong fork for that path with your first post in this thread.

You've stated they've been more destructive. Physically they have not, but cost wise yes. Much of that can be attributed to inflation.

Some are scientific facts, most are just current understanding that is in wild flux. Most people refer to climate change as something that is recent and primarily human caused. You seemed to be doing that. If that is not the case, then I apologize. I assert (and millions of years of data back me up) that the climate is in constant and wild change.

I'm a total jerk in the cockpit and have zero people skills. You wouldn't want to experience that. :D

How do you know factually that the storms have not been worse? We had record high ever, ever snow. That's not worse? We have had record high heat ever. That's not worse? You don't know what you are talking about! What is the condition of the glaciers? I saw a view from 1921 vs one from a few years ago vs one from 2010. The change is dramatic and so sad. You are young and I hope you will wake up and become a responsible citizen. Us older liberals can't keep trying to save the planet for you.
 
Record high... in the last ~100 years. Do you realize how short that is on a geologic scale? We're simply expanding a sample size- averages are made up of extremes, and world records in either direction will continue to be broken. Glaciers fluctuate dramatically over time.. going from almost nothing to overtaking a major portion of each hemisphere.

I do my part to be responsible. We have enough garbage to take out about once every 2 weeks, but recycling is overflowing each week. I drive a low fuel burn vehicle and so does my wife. We shouldn't crap in our own back yard, and there is a level of common sense that should be associated with it.

What am I going to wake up to? To try to take care of the environment as best I can (like I already do and support?)?

Do you have all the data that you are now fully aware? You obviously don't understand the implications of small detailed statistical studies extrapolated outside of their margins to try to make generic conclusions.
 
My fifth hurricane, personally, over almost six decades of living and the least of the five in terms of intensity. I work the relief effort here. I see the recovery daily. Can't make it what it's not, despite the impact on many individual lives. Last October's snow and ice storm crippled the power grid for nearly twice as long and brought days of single digit temperatures to boot.

"National Hurricane Center Director Rick Knabb said Hurricane Sandy's size means some coastal parts of New York and New Jersey may see water rise from 6 to 11 feet from surge and waves. The rest of the coast north of Virginia can expect 4 to 8 feet of surge."

"Hurricane Katrina of 2005 produced the highest storm surge ever recorded on the U.S. coast--an astonishing 27.8 feet at Pass Christian, Mississippi. This bested the previous U.S. record of 22.8 feet, which also occurred at Pass Christian, during 1969's Hurricane Camille. According to the NHC Katrina final report (PDF File), Hurricane Katrina brought a surge of 24 - 28 feet to a 20-mile stretch of Mississippi coast. Fully 90 miles of coast from eastern Louisiana to Alabama received a storm surge characteristic of a Category 3 hurricane."

Sandy was a significant and life-changing storm for many people (and I speak as one directly affected). The recovery effort has been nothing short of remarkable. For all the talk of "Frankenstorm" and high-tide with a full moon, those of us in emergency services are grateful we saw a Category One storm and not the bigger one which is surely coming one day. The forecast N'oreaster will be a piece of cake by comparison.

Whatever happens, life always finds a way.
 
I lost power for ten days in '06 in Buffalo because of snow. I went to work, came home, and drank beer.

Also, for HRDiva, our highest recorded temp was in 1948 :)
