HondaJet In Production

Honda Aircraft has started production of the first customer HondaJet and will have three or four ready for delivery by the time the small jet is certified at the end of 2013. Problems with the fan blades prompted a delay in the certification of the GE Honda Aero engines that are fundamental to the efficiency of the design and set back the test schedule, but President Michimasa Fujino told a news conference on Monday at NBAA 2012 that the engine is now close to certification and the rest of the schedule is catching up. Despite the delays (certification was originally planned for late 2012) and changes in the market, Fujino was typically upbeat about the project, which is more than 25 years old.

Fujino said Honda expected the process to be difficult and anticipated there might be delays, but it hasn't lost sight of the original goal. "Honda is known for its methodical approach in engineering and processes," said Fujino. "To this end, our commitment to deliver the best possible product that will bring new value to aviation remains. We have taken the necessary time and effort with the HondaJet program to do it right and give our customers the finest product with the best ownership experience possible."

I hope it gets 30 mpg ...............

I know there is nothing wrong with the stability of the airframe, but those engines mounts always looked sketchy to me. :D

Available options.

Carbon Fiber winglets

Mugen Lowering springs

Low profile tires

10,000W sound system

Tinted windows

20's

and Honda Odyssey folding third row!

really tho, its a cool looking plane, but the VLJ segment didnt do as well as most thought, with the economy the way it is most that were looking to get into a VLJ have most likely looked elsewhere. Should be interesting to see how well this thing sells once it hits the market.

I know it will sell on ramp appeal alone, hopefully that's enough to turn a profit. I was very impressed with the Honda guys from the start, they built the experimental making as much as possible cert worthy, unfortunately the 10% that was unfinished took 90% of the time. Kind of like fixing a car, 90% of the work takes 10% of the time and 10% of the work takes 90% of the time.

Good plane, good engineering team, I hope it does well.

Cool, I've been seeing this thing since it was a secret @ GSO! It's cool to see it flying weekly now, from what I've heard/been told certification has been a pain in the butt.

They had to drop the 10000 watt sound system as it was screwing up all the compass and compass sensors. But the LED edge glow rims are a go.

I hope this little jet makes a big blow to the other, um, less than stellar light jets out there and shows them how a proper airplane is destined, engineered, and manufactured. Plus, of looks cool as hell!

For real? The thing looks like it has a tumor where the cockpit is. I think the phenom 100 is the best looking of the entry light jets.

Agreed, I think Honda should stick to cars or at least go back to the drawing board the next time they decide to build a jet. Would I fly one? Hell yes, but if I were buying a jet with my own money I would pick the Phenom. :-)

Hehe, the Hondajet guys are about as far away from the Eclipse group as possible. Keep in mind my information is a little dated, but if the Honda guys were pulling the crap Eclipse did I would have heard about it by now.

I guess the looks depend on individual preference. To me the Honda looks ok, the Phenom looks strange with it's bird beak and all, in my opinion it looks just as ugly as a Premier.

I don't know any pilots that fly the phenom 100 that have anything good to say about it.
Here is one that will. What have you heard? The people who complain about them complain because they got early SN's and the kinks weren't worked out. It's hands down the best in the entry level jet catagory (so far). If I can give advice to any want to be owner of any airplane it's to not get an early SN of any new airplane. I don't care if it's gulfstream, there will be teething problems.

Contaminated numbers, G1000, Poor cabinet space. Glad you like it though, if it's working for you and the boss thats what matters.
