Flew a friends Cub down to check on his family's and friends houses down along the shore today.... Basically unreachable by car at this time still. Here are some pics. :(

That's a shame. Hubby and I spent quite a few weekends there when he was working in Jersey. :(

We saw this and were in contact with ATC. But good to point out for sure.
 
Well, maybe some good will come of this...maybe this means the end of the abomination that is the Jersey Shore TV show.

In that area, some people's homes and property have been in their families for years, before people really thought a Hurricane like Sandy could do what it did that far North. I vividly remember the 'Perfect Storm' of 1992 and it wasn't that bad (I grew up about 4 miles inland from some of those pictures) compared to this utter destruction. Looks like the water also traveled a few miles inland in some areas which no one thought could happen affecting areas 15-20 feet above sea level.

My mom is three miles inland and won't have power for another week at least. Hurricane force winds decimated the power grid miles inland. This is going to be far worse than any other natural disaster we have ever seen.
 
It's climate change. After this, we are investing in a natural gas generator. We now have giant snowstorms where we lose power for days and tropical storms. It will only continue and will get worse. I am tired of sitting in the dark freezing.

Hurricane Andrew was a cat 5 but was small in comparison to this 800 mile cat 1 storm that did far more damage ( helped by the high tide/full moon combination). They will continue to be bigger because there is more moisture in the air.

Why not wear one? Lol It has a nice intercom system in this plane. It was better then screaming at each other for two hours.

Wait, what?

Sandy isn't an Andrew, and it's certainly not a Katrina. A big storm, yes. A big storm that hit underprepared coastal areas...? Yes. (Perhaps the same people who said New Orleans shouldn't have been built below sea level would agree that New York shouldn't be built on an island at the mercy of the sea, and that you shouldn't build on barrier islands and coastlines in general...? The sea is a harsh mistress, and always has been.)

At any rate, a big storm? Yeah, sure. Decent storm surge, good strong winds, good intensity on the northeast side... powerful system to feed it... check, check, check and check. But a category five hurricane it was not.

Years after Andrew, Homestead was still a mess. New Orleans... anyway, "Far more damage"? ... just no. Lots of money, perhaps, but that's just because New York knows how to play with funny money.

I get a little sick every time I hear someone say "This is New York's Katrina".
