A sobering and very truthful message from the British Airline Pilot Association.

Where are all the folks who so frequently are professing how great the airline profession is in Europe? Oh, yeah -- they're people who have never lived and worked and flown professionally in Europe and only know how it appears from far away (or only from looking at single points of information like pay scales).

It is really bad in Europe, and the video pretty much summed it up. I work at a flying school in Europe, and most guys probably won't find a job, anywhere. PFJ is rampant, and the growth of low cost carriers has brought conditions down. I work at a flying school in Europe, and the majority of students are not finding any kind of jobs, anywhere.

Nah, I don't give a poop about videos, press releases, internet populism or anything else.

If it doesn't result in more money and more time off, it's folly.

Just from what I've been reading over the last few years, EU actually has it worse than us in most cases. Legacies almost never hire, very very limited GA, and they have PFT/PFJ all the way up to the big iron. Grass is always greener, right?

Yes, that's what I was getting at. It never fails on pro pilot websites that there's always a small group pounding the drum about how much pay airline pilots in Europe make....but they seemingly always fail to comprehend the significantly higher cost of living in Europe, as well as all the other barriers to entry into the profession there.

Friends I know who fly professionally in Europe wouldn't recommend it, and even casually speak of wanting to come to the US for 'greener pastures'.
