Multi For cheap

Patrick at Great Lakes Air Ventures (Board memeber here) is doing Multi in a Twin Comanche, 10 hours for $2500 if Tom's not available. GLAV is near Lansing in Charlotte, MI

Could you possibly give some more info on this guy? I am looking into going to ATP and getting my multi but this sounds like a definite option that I would like to look into.

He has a apache that he does training in. Price is set in stone once you sign up. Even if you fail the ride he says he won't charge you more for the extra training and checkride use of plane. He is very good. With the money you save get your seaplane with him while you are there
 
Is it worth trying up there with him this time of the year? Winter time in MI sounds like some harsh flying. I am not from up there though so I don't really know how bad it actually would be.

They're just outside St. Louis, and they used to pick you up at the airport and have a car they'd let you use the two days you were there. I don't know if they still let you use the car.

That does seen like a good deal. Is 5 hours really enough to get proficient in the airplane though? I have been looking at ATP and they say they give 8.5. Which I feel I could definitely get proficient in that amount of time, only bad part is it would cost about 4500 after an examiner and I need to try to save all the money I can. I really am unsure about where to go right now

No, but it's plenty to pass the checkride if you need the certificate. There's pretty much nowhere that's going to turn you loose with 5 multi, so you'll have time to get proficient in whatever later. 8.5 isn't enough to get proficient either.

It really isn't. I have something like 60 multi and I'm no where near "proficient."

the training consists of 3x 2 hr long training flights and 2 hours dedicated to the check ride. You can get it done in 2 days if you study before you come in and the ceilings are nice.
The training material is included in the price (checklists, manuever guide, flight profiles) .. For ME theory we have Bob Gardner's "The Complete Multi-Engine Pilot" book in stock for the same price as ASA. (I believe this is best ME book out there)
 
I recommend gateway at XLL to anyone near the Allentown PA area. I got my multi for around $2000 this past February

I got weathered out a few weeks ago when Sandy hit the east coast. Winds were nuts up in TC that Monday and Tuesday. Other than a bad wind day, there's plenty of good Stay in the pattern and practice area weather for you up there this time of year. I would hold off on the Seaplane unitl Spring though.....:)

I think I am going to be waiting till spring for the multi anyways. I am going to get my CFI first, it is just more financially feasible for me right now.
