Hey try this next time you go out to practice barrel rolls...
The barrel roll is just a loop that you roll around. Put more emphasis on the loop rather than the roll. Practice a couple of nice round loops. You should feel a little negative over the top and the stick should travel to just about the neutral position. Remember what the elevator pressure feels like. From the pull, to the set, to the float back to the pull. Now start a loop, mixing in a little left aileron (1/3 deflection) as soon a you start the pull. As the airspeed decreases as you "loop" keep feeding in aileron to keep the roll rate constant. Float over the top just as you would the loop keeping left aileron defected. Stick should start to travel back, just like it would on the back side of the loop as you start decreasing aileron deflection. Your airspeed is increasing, so you need to decrease aileron deflection to keep the roll rate constant. If you keep the roll rate timed with the loop you should be rolling wings level as the nose meets the horizon. If you finish nose low, that means that you roll rate is faster than your loop rate. You should be looking straight ahead. Be smooth & don't rush. In a Super D, 140 and 3Gs is all you need.
