Junior 'new-hire' domiciles

So if you're looking at a regional, and think you might want to be based out west, you want to apply at Skywest or Skywest.

For jetBlue it's normally

BOS
JFK
MCO
FLL
LGB

Depends on the equipment, though. If you get the 320, probably be JFK or BOS. They kinda flip back and forth. 190 is likely gonna be BOS with MCO being the most senior 190 base. It's a total crap shoot out of training, though. A couple of guys got FLL out of training last year, and I heard one guy got LGB. That LGB will be dead last on reserve for 5-7 years, likely....

The Bro bases are your best bet for staying West, jr bases tend to be FAT and PSP. Not too sure about the jet, a recent class had a few in SLC and DEN, I hear MSP and ORD are jr as well but maybe someone else can confirm that.

ExpressJet CRJ side right now is IAD and ATL, that's where the latest new-hires went. Just announced 2 new-hire classes, some of those will def. go to IAD, rest probably ATL.

As a Southernjets pilot, you largely get what you get. It's a career carrier anyway so what's "junior" shouldn't matter in the macro sense. If it does, one shouldn't apply.
This is actually true at ANY 121.

(That little box that says you're willing and able to relocate to any domicile in the BrandX Airlines System? They actually mean it.)

Yes and no. In general a "major" (legacy/national/whatnot) is going to have work rules that make commuting to a domicile, even far away, while on reserve, slightly better than doing it at a regional.

Assuming of course, you aren't going to actually relocate every time they shutdown or open a new base.

Also true. I guess it should really say "accept assignment [and by extension responsibility for getting yourself to or from there, as governed by the CPA or other applicable company policy] to any domicile in the BrandX Airlines System."

Southernjets never had much of a commuter policy up until recently.

The old mantra was if you wanted to work for Southernjets, you're going to move to Atlanta or eventually will when the outlying bases closed.

Basically, all we have is a 'call in honest' program where if you meet a bunch of stipulations, you can more or less get a same-day trip drop and try to pick the time back up somehow, but you don't get paid unless you do.

Some more info about CHQ and Shuttle:

Seniority # in class goes by age, so the older guys are getting what they want, the younger guys are going to LGA (junior). But considering all the movement most guys are getting the base they want in a few months or less, like me who is going to Ohio. Although I'm giving up a line at LGA just to sit on reserve for a couple more months. IND is the most senior base here at CHQ, its the company HQ which you think would be the opposite but since were a regional and our flying changes so much the least likely base to change so all the senior guys want the stability. Chicago its also a "more" senior base although its existence is up in the air since all of our flying there is for American, then like I said LGA is where most new hires are going and everything else, (CMH, CLE, and SDF) fall somewhere in the middle...

I don't know a heck of a lot about Shuttle, other than that new hires are getting spread about between IND, CMH, and LGA. ATL is very senior since a lot of our Delta flying has disappeared out of there.

I have a friend who is a recent new-hire at Air Wisconsin, he got LGA right off the bat. If you want to live on the West Coast SkyWest or Horizon are where you want to go...

But your young and looking to breaking into the airline world (like its been previously said) just go to the first place that pays a semi-decent/livable wage and live wherever until you get the experience and some seniority.

Good Luck.

I approve of this.

But at least you have a tier system for jumpseat priority. We've got the "call in honest" thing, but we come in behind everyone ELSE trying to get to work on Delta. Hence the reason I'd rather jumpseat on jetBlue than Delta.

A week or so in advance if you're going to work. A few days if you're going home. It's nice knowing that you have the jumpseat reserved over a week in advance during the summer season.

Not necessarily. I don't think any of the new hires in my transition class this spring got MSP... They did get SLC, COS, and DEN though.

I did hear of new hires getting SLC and other bases out of training, but I'm thinking more in general of where one would get off reserve quickest. I'm 45% in MSP. Next I'd be 60% in COS, and everywhere else I'd be greater than ~75%. Right now, MSP Is properly staffed, so they haven't been sending new hires there.

Just speaking from my perspective, so it's hard to say what the most junior base is now, or at least where to go to get a line quicker.

Guys,

What do you think is the chance of a new hire getting the following bases and what's an approximate time frame to hold a line based at these domiciles:

AWAC
LGA, DCA

Trans States
IAD

Expressjet
CRJ (IAD) ERJ (EWR)

Republic
DCA

CHQ
LGA

Shuttle America
LGA

For Xjet CRJ side you could probably get IAD rigHt out of training, if not within a few months.

Chq lga outta training
Hooray!
