iPads...

But we are talking about specifically Apple iPads right not Android tablets ... I don't know if they will require us as students at ASU I guess I'll save for one.

If you were asking about ATP, yes, an iPad is required.

So is Foreflight pretty much the way to go? Or does anyone prefer other apps for nav tools? I know one guy locally who uses WingX but he seems so-so about it.

What are the best apps for FAR lookups and can you make notes within the regs?

Other than importing an excel spreadsheet or PDF or something like that, any good apps for organizing student records/lesson plans/syllabus?

Any other "essential" apps you've found?

Garmin just released their version of Foreflight and im currently testing it out with a trial. I've found it to be very buggy but others may feel different. I honestly think you cannot go wrong with Foreflight.

Other apps that I ABSOLUTELY love is AirWx. Im not sure what the price is up to now but it is the first thing I look at before rolling out of bed each morning.

Fltplan.com has a decent aviation app that I have used a few times along with PilotFAR-AIM.

And last but not least, an IPad is not complete without Angry Birds and Temple Run :D

I have an iFly as well and have never seen the need to spend $$ for another subscription to ForeFlight. I use the FltPlan app... it's free, replaced my paper charts and it suits my needs just fine.

135 ops approved for me. No paper in our cockpit these days.

Charts are nice but when you can send your end of the day numbers and update the logbook at the same time in 5 minutes, that is epic.

Any Android tablet EFB users?

Naviator appears to get very favorable reviews and geo-referenced subscriptions are only $50/year there, 1/3 the price of Foreflight.

Foreflight is only $75 per year. You can "upgrade" to the $150 version to get gps position on Airport diagram charts. Not worth the extra $75 IMO, but a nice option if you have money to burn...anyway, you can not go wrong with Foreflight

Yeah that's what I mean, Naviator has geo-referenced approach plates and diagrams for $50 (the equivalent of Foreflights $150 subscription, and iFly's $110 subscription).

I might be mistaken, the $50 might include the plates but you have to order the geo-referenced versions from Seattle Avionics for more...

I use Android (Motorola XYboard) with the Garmin Pilot App. Works great. Its quite a bit better than the the Naviator App. It had a few bugs, but version 2 of the Garmin Pilot App worked it all out.

I like it better than the iPad's, and GPS works great, no need to buy an external GPS.

How much is the Garmin data subscription for the app? I think their hand helds are like $300/years, pretty steep.

Make sure to get a good knee pad to protect it in turbulence.

It's interesting that people on here are using the iFly. I almost got one of those but then I compared it to an iPad, and saw that the iPad does everything the iFly does, and it's something I can use every day outside of flying, for about the same price. I use Foreflight for everything but I have been using paper approach plates just because I find them easier to find and read in a bumpy airplane. However it is nice to know that if my plates are expired or I'm flying into an airport that I don't have the plate for I can just use the iPad.

I believe it was $100/yr A tad more expensive than the others, but really the only (best) option on the android system.

I have the bigger xyboard, (cant remember the size off the top of my head) And battery will last all day if you turn of the 3G. otherwise it will run it down pretty quickly.
