Citabria WI-CA Ferry

tlewis95

I drive planes
More exactly, SBM-DWA. A beautiful 1995 Explorer with just over 1000 hours on it needed flying down to Vacaville, CA where it is now being taken apart and shipped to Sydney. About 1650nm in 17 hours of flying over 2 days.

Super clean. I really really wanted to keep it when I was done with it.

At 12,500' after just crossing Lake Tahoe into the valley where I am suddently 12,400' AGL instead of 1,500' AGL. How could I not throw in one last barrel roll before starting a 23 minute let down?

Safely in the hangar for teardown. I want one now. :(

That looks like a blast!

DWA is a cool airport. I went there a few times, including on my CMEL ride.

Man this is why I need to do all my cross countries in Citabrias! I love the victory barrel roll shot over Lake Tahoe. :) And wtf when did Yolo Co become DWA? Man I'm out of the loop!

NICE! Looks like you had a blast! I just got back from ferrying a 7GCBC from Santa Paula, Ca to McCall, ID. I'll post the pics as soon as I go through them!

How does one go about getting in to ferry flying? Seems like a blast.

Right place at the right time or advertise. It can go really good or really bad. I'll only do it for friends, a good business acquaintance or for people recommended by them. Its way too easy to get burned of you just take anything that comes along.

I did all my PPL stuff in a Citabria and I know I am going to miss flying it now that I am doing my instrument in a 172. I think I saw that plane for sale on Barnstormers, looks like a beauty.
