Indeed, the survey company I worked at had 7 airplanes working right in the middle of the bravo around LAX. I think there was ONE controller that didn't like it, but the rest were smooth operators. :cool: I think Florida controllers in general must just be a bit edgy. Psychologically, communication barriers are some of the hardest for the human mind to deal with. Some people actually get sick from it. So with all the foreign contract training, maybe their minds are getting a bit wacky.

I was thinking some more about the remark I made about the pilot being a student. If she was rated it would be a safe assumption that she was newly minted. Also if she trained out of a smaller airport in the PHX area wouldn't her CFI want her to get some dual time at places like KIWA?

Edit: I just noticed that the plane in question was based out of KAVQ. So it was defiantly not based in the PHX area.

Plane is based out of FFZ at Arizona Aviation. Used to be one of Falcon Executive's birds. Have flown that bird myself.
 
I'm at a USAF UPT base and when I went through T-38s, we didn't go XC to Phoenix specifically because the douchebaggery displayed by the controllers there.

Could be worse, we're state restricted and overnights at AF bases only for our cross countries due to being short cash, awesome stuff.

Now that I've recently stepped across the 'student' line over to the IP side of the house, I've noticed the good deals are going away in my little slice of AETC as well. Don't worry, we got a load of new computers and flat screens though!

And they upgraded the TIMs academic resume screen, so now I have NO EXCUSE for a syl dev... not sure how much it costed to program that extra screen, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap . ; ) In other news I'm learning to take the good with the bad lol.

Oh man, when I was at an AOC, they spent a bunch of money to get the Air Force emblem on all the new chairs, but then didn't have enough money for computer keyboards and mice so bought the cheapest ones they could find to stay within the budget. Let's just say the chairs looked good, but I could hardly write an email.

Good deals went away a long time ago, son. Back when the ACE detachments were still around and Willie was open.

Now I understand why you don't go to PHX.......FAIP. :D

To be fair, the scheduling of a bunch of students in fast jets to arrive at a high-density international airport on friday night during the weekend arrival window (2000L) doesn't exactly set the stage for putting controllers in a good mood.

I've seen this clown show attempted a number of times at a number of locations and it never ends well. My last experience was with a Saudi kid on his first night instrument ride rolling into KAFW with 10 other T-38s friday night at 8 pm. Regional Approach was less than impressed, and had a lot of "Duke 21, the Instructor is going to talk on the radio from now on, got it?" calls.

As a FAIP who will probably be scheduling this stuff in the future, I highly suggest you learn from such buffoonery -- the root cause is laziness on the part of the Flight CCs and IPs, who want to simplify the flight planning by sending everyone in the flight to the same base. Oh, and they also want that first night to be in a good city so everyone can go out and party. Those cities typically have high density traffic around their major airports on friday night. Do the math...it never works out well.

Meh, maybe it was growing up in it, but everyone seems to cooperate and graduate pretty well with respect to traffic. Sort of a "yeah, this sucks, let's just get this over with" mentality. Although northern Cal where you were is an entirely different kind of driving, altogether.

I think it is all the pot being smoked there. :p

You know, I have yet to live somewhere that I actually hated. Shoot, I haven't even visited many places I didn't like...either I've had good luck in my travels or I'm easily pleased.
For example, I just spent the weekend in Chicago...though I don't know that I'd like to live there, it is one heckuva fun city.

I go to a lot of places that I'd just downright hate living in, but are fun to visit. And almost everywhere (except BTR) has its own charm.

I will admit, the traffic wasnt as bad as the East coast. But it was still pretty bad.

And I am sure you arent the only person. I mean I was there for a little while which bumped the number up to two at the least.;)

Ah yes, red stick. Only time I was there was about 10 PM and all I saw of the city was the airport and the cookie rack in the FBO.

In indoc, whenever there was a subtle (but uncomplicated) detail about performance, the instructors frequently prefaced their remarks with "Certain stations, like BTR, (performance-related statement), (performance-related screwup)." Having recently experienced it for the first time, I can say I've no desire to go back.
