and I officially get furloughed on August 3rd. With real no plans of returning. 10 years in this industry and i might be done for good. It's a bad market still and I am banging on every door that will open. We will see what the future holds. I hope to stay flying but who knows.

1,000 ME can make you a street Capt in the Metro here and then you can add some MTPIC to your logbook.

When one door closes, another one can open.

That, or you can kick one down.

THIS. Do this. With 121 experience, even as an FO, plus a bunch TPIC time from where ever this guy works, you won't have to look at the regionals ever again. Straight to the majors for you, or high paying corporate with the freight experience. This is the most optimistic view, but entirely possible. This is freight I'm guessing and it's not as glamorous(not glamorous AT ALL actually), but it can get you that career stop job much quicker.

Thanks for words of encouragement. I have a good outlook for this. But the longer I am out the harder it is. But not to get to personal, wife (good job), two kids, house, so moving is an issue, unless the pay is huge. But I do live in a major city. And I have had a few nibbles, and I have no shame in approaching people about jobs. Just will suck to go from a good pay check to a little more again.

If that's your scenario then don't move for my gig. You'll pull your hair out somewhere in rural Wyoming. We just had a guy give notice to go to a medevac job near home. That said, his turbine PIC probably got him the gig. I take it you're in CA? What about Amflight and either Oakland or Burbank? Anyone know what the upgrade times to the 99 or the Metro are in those bases?

People here might know of a few places if you'll tell us where you are. If you don't want to say publically, PM and if I know someone there, I'll put you in touch. Good luck.

I am in the greater bay area, so I am close to SJC/SFO/OAK/SMF. But I hope to stay in flying. I have the time, a few type ratings and have worked in a P.135 safety department. It will be a new experience for me, but it will learn a lot.

Upgrade at OAK is a long time. Especially since they have been fat on BE99 guys. All the turbine guys have ancors in OAK and won't be moving or leaving the job unless something better comes around.

How about some Alaska flying? Era/Hageland(yes, it's the operation that's featured on "Flying Wild Alaska") has jump seat privileges with pretty much everyone. A friend of mine works for them right now. He lives in Oakland, and commutes. IIRC his schedule is 2 weeks on 2 weeks off. Similar to an airline I suppose with the exception being that the time away from home is all at once, but then so is the time at home.

Okay, I'll bite -- why would a single furlough mean that you would be "done for good"?

I get it that you have a wife with a good job and kids, and don't want to move, but I just think it's very short-sighted thinking to believe that you would be out of the game completely because of a single furlough.

Not a bad gig if you can swing the time away from home. Probably your only chance of getting hired would be to JS to ANC and start pounding on doors.

That said, if you can swing two weeks at a time away from home you could also look into the ACMI world. Lots of thread about that over on APC and FI. In the Bay area would also be Virgin America.

Where are you getting furloughed from?

CitationAir, is shutting down, or at least changing their business model 100%, thus parking up to 60 airplanes over the next two years. I interviewed at VA about 3 months ago and it went okay. They got all hung up over me not having a 1000 TPIC, but at the time, they were not hiring a lot, so I see why they hired other guys. Plus a 1000 TPIC, i think is a joke, I know a lot of guys that have thousands of hours of TPIC and never once have stepped out of the cockpit. I have worked in our safety department over the last few years and have been in charge of projects and issues that they have to then follow. Just my little rant.

Ok, you're on PPW, right? Lots of Corporate types on there.

Also, seems like in the long term NetJets has growth plans (although I believe they still have furloughs currently) so if you can manage to stay in for the next couple of years you could be in a good position to get something there.

Seems like FAT at SkyWest always goes junior which could be an easy commute from the Bay area, with SFO as an eventual goal in the RJ, although I have no idea how senior that goes.

Just throwing out ideas.....

Netjets has almost 700 guys on the street. But, by the time they recall and higher I hope to either be not in aviation or in a place that I wont want to leave. As for the regional s, they are a no way. Can not take the pay. I know that sounds odd, but I have 2 kids, so day care is 2000 a month. I do have an office job lined up, but it is not flying. And yes, I am on PPW, been on it for years.

Ah, didn't realize you were in the 91/135 world already. Your avatar deceived me. I agree with your regionals comment. I realize that freight pay vs regional pay is actually quite moot if you only spend 5-10 years in both, but that 1st year pay is just ridiculous at the regionals and 1 year of that is a LONG time. You type rated in anything? Seems there's quite a few corporate operators out there looking for people, though maybe not in the bay area...

Yes, been doing 135 for over 6 years. I got the 525 and the 560XL type. Bay Area is a G4/5, Falcon and Challenger land. Lots of big iron. I have been getting a few interviews, mostly outside of my area, but there is people out there that won't follow the NBAA pay scales and undercut. I refuse to do that, it does not help me or anybody else. I would rather start over in a whole new industry with the same potential as aviation.
