Holy Steep Approach Batman

I understand why no one flies passenger airplanes like this. Pax get scared of very normal things.
But any other airplane? I don't understand why not. Can you roll up the first 1000 feet and put it down at the end? When your engine fails(SE), do you magically get more lift to take you to the runway? No and No, so anything else is, in some sense, is reckless.

Oh and Turboprops FTW.
Flying is reckless... if nature wanted us to fly, we would have wings. I'm going to walk and get hit by a drunk driver!

This is exactly right. Practicing and performing steep approaches is great... Did them all the time in the Brasilia. Landing halfway down the runway with shifting aim points is garbage, and indicates poor technique. Panning to yourself at the end just proves the jumpseater is a tool, and apparently had no idea what was even happening... I would have been embarrassed to be in a video like that, even as a jumpseater.

Oh. Come on now. You guys are just jealous because you didn't think of making a great video like that. Showboating on YouTube could get these guys their own reality TV show, like Deadliest Catch or something. Even the astronauts do it now days.

What could possibly go wrong?

.

Not to mention the guy in the OP lands about 4 feet off centerline. So with centerline, aimpoint, and flare out the window, the only objective was to be slow and steep close to the ground? What a turd.

LOL, you jetzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz guys are funny. Ya haz no idear what doze mightry TP's can do. For a Dash or an ATR an approach like this really isn't that big of a deal. Not that you'd do it on a revenue flight as it would scare the bajeezus out of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Passenger.

Configured with full flaps and power levers at flight idle you pretty much have to have a nose down attitude like that just to maintain speed about 10 over Vref.

Of course normally, and obviously, a normalized approach is not done at flight idle. Those guys were just having fun or maybe doing some kind of power off approach training.

FOQA

You don't actually believe this was domestic do you? There are these things, other places in the world, called countries, some of them are not full of zero risk freakazoid paranoid numb-nuts safety nazis (NOT SAYING THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE - LOL)...Not saying this was the safest thing to do but seriously...relax dude..That crew didn't do it with your grandma in the back.

The NTSB has pointed out for years that ferry and repositioning flights...never mind.

Typically, foreign carriers that aren't "freakazoid paranoid numb-nuts safety Nazis" are banned from operating into the US and EU (the EU has a public blacklist, even).

You guys think that's bad? I'm going to scare the hell out of some people when I start flying them again.

Make sure your jets don't have FOQA. Flap overspeeds, slightly unstabilized approaches, any wackiness whatsoever gets instantly reported and there will be a voicemail waiting for you upon arrival.

Sad it's gotten to this, but if the person that signs your paycheck says to fly the aircraft a certain way, fly it that way and leave the lift vectors and sideslips to save approaches for the weekend in your Cub.

Is it any secret that SOPs are actually written for the crappiest pilot at the company for legal liability reasons? Maybe "crappiest pilot" is harsh. Lets say most fatigued crew...

Personally, I'm all for standardized procedures as it better ensures a consistent outcome in even the hairiest situation, but I can't say that I get all bent out of shape over a guy that can actually man handle an airplane a bit on a part 91 flight.

Posting it to youtube however... :bang:

Well, written by lawyers and accountants, neither of which fly airplanes except for jtrain609 — oh and the occasional infallible line check airman that screwed something up so it's GOT to be the procedure that led him down that path... ;)

As always, do what you want. But I wouldn't post that video on YouTube if it were me. Way too many Feds/CPs/HR folks out there who have a bee up their butt and don't know enough to distinguish that though flying aggressively you were still well within the safe envelope.

The most important thing you MUST do is put this face on. Who can get mad at this???
