License Validation

Hello all,

I currently hold a Commercial/Instrument FAA certificate along with a Panamanian Commercial/Certificate with a 737 Type rating.

My question is: Does anyone know the process to have the 737 type put on my FAA license?

Also, I can either get my FAA ATP in the states now, or wait and get my Panamanian ATP when the time comes to upgrade. Can I have my Panamanian ATP validated to an FAA ATP?

Thanks for the help

No clue how you'd get the type on your FAA cert, but the license validation process will only give you a PPL, even if you come in with an ATP.

If you eventually want an FAA ATP, you'll have to do the written and the checkride.

Sounds like a question for your local FSDO to answer. They'll have the final word on it anyway

Thanks guys. From what I've heard from guys around here is that they need to go to the US and do a checkride in a 737 sim in order to have it on their FAA license.

So I've done a little research on places that do that type of thing in Florida but I'm curious if anyone here has recommendations or personal experience.

Thanks

Check out Higher Power in DFW. There are a lot of shady places out there.

Thanks for that. Yeah I've heard some horror stories out there. I've got plenty of time to get it done and am not in any big rush so I'll find some place that isn't just about taking the money.

If anyone else has info please feel free to chime in.

Here is the part of the FAA Order that covers this subject. These are the FAA's instructions to its inspectors.

I'd try to put it in simpler words than what the FAA does, but to be honest, my head hurts whenever I try wading through the rules related to foreign licenses. Maybe the people who deal with it all the time don't think so, but I think it has to be about the most complicated subject imaginable.

IMHO, Get a few rides under your belt on the 737. Get the ATP written done, then when you have some off time, take the type/ATP ride here. You should be a 73 master, and it should be a non-issue.

Hope you're having fun! Let me know if you pass through MIA.
