RJ Course

Retired in SAN

Time to return to the saddle..
Curious what others are saying regarding the RJ course. Worth the investment? $5000 is a little steep for me.. Was considering the 4 day class. Big disadvantage? Interested in hearing from others who completed either one. Did it lead to a job?

Thanks in advance.

General con census is that RJ course are nit worth it. You don't get a type and have to do all the training anyway once you get to the airline.

Wasn't real concerned if I would be prepared for the training at an airline but more curious if would help get me there in the first place. The type would cost about 20 grand.

Thanks,

My employer gave it to me for approximately free*.

Good course? Yeah. Worth paying for yourself? No. Helps you get through initial? Probably. Leads to a job? No. Having a part 121 job will lead you to more part 121 jobs.

* A matter of interpretation and probably will be a matter of adjudication, if the defecation really hits the oscillation.

Thanks,

It actually helps out more than you think to prep you for 121 training and could possibly keep you from washing out. My 121 sim instructors noticed a difference between those who took it and those who didn't. As far as getting a job, I'm not sure. My guess is that it might give you a slight edge over the next flight instructor but it's not going to be easy to get a 121 job with all of these furloughees that you will be competing with.

Study hard and have a good attitude, you'll get through. You absolutely do NOT need the extra course. Heck, getting through indoc/systems is the toughest part anyway! After that, sim is easy. Save that money for when you need it - like first year pay.

With an ATP and citation type, you already have WAY more to bring to the table than most candidates. If you aren't getting calls, odds are your resume is the problem.

Thank you Gypsy,
Actually had a call from an Xjet recruiter for a interview date a while back but haven't much luck in returning the call past a voice mail. Point well taken as far as saving my money for first year necessities.

Best

I'd save your cash. 121 ground school isn't that tough that you need to take a special course before hand. If for some reason you think you'll wash out without it, then by all means, it would be a good investment. But if you were successful with a Citation type I think that sould remove any doubt that you can drink from the fire hose.

LOL! Funny, "drinking from a firehose" Seems I do remember that:) I've actually been through ground schools for Citation 500,525, Hawker-700,800 and 737-200. But other than the 500 I seem to run out of cash before getting to do the fun stuff! Have definetly learned to love systems though. All kidding aside, I got the message from you all, SAVE THE MONEY!

Thanks much:) (is there a spell checker in this editor I can't see?)

That's interesting.

Course is good if you get a decent instructor. If you end up with one of their arrogant aff holes then you just wasted 5k. It's a 50/50 shot.

This is true of basically any course of training.

I'd rather have a full type rating than the RJ course.

It was totally worth it before this 1500 hour thing. Now it won't give you reduced minimums or preferential hiring. So DO NOT pay for it, build time and instruct your tail off!

nor should it ever have, unless it was conducted to full ATP standards including equipment examination.

I disagree. I did it through American Eagle, and i didn't even do the systems CBT portion. It didnt teach me anything about flying, HOWEVER... it was a great tool of how airline training was going to be. If I didn't have the introduction to what a FLOW was or what CALLOUTS were and realize they were very important to know and how to practice them I would have gone into airline training not caring and probably would have washed out. Problem is it way to expensive for someone to cough up.

If you weren't able to very quickly figure out what a callout is or how to do CRJ flows, you would have absolutely no business flying an airliner.
