Hello All,

I am a very new student at Hillsboro Aviation, with just under 20 hrs so far. I moved here from Virginia after getting out of the military to persue the "dream". I am enjoying my time thus far in the program, still nervous every time I go up there though. Anyways, if anyone is living in the Portland area and is able to get together every now and then for some sea stories or anything, let me know in a PM. I just moved here and aside from my friends from high school and a few other HAI students, I really do not know anyone here.

Cheers,
James

BTW I know this forum is usually used for time building so my apologies for posting somewhat of an off topic subject. Just looking to meet some other enthusiastic individuals no matter how far along in training or their careers they are.

You gotta check out all the breweries. Nice town but the income tax thing sucks!
Yeah so far I have been to Mcmenamins, love the terminator stout. Also a big fan of the Rogue brewery, not much time for that with this flight training program though.

Both those are pretty sub par for what Portland has to offer IMO especially Mcmenamin's.. the mcdonalds of brewery's. And, again IMO, rouge pretty much always misses the mark on what their beer is going for.
Wonder over to the Hopworks Urban Brewery, Hair of the Dog, Cascade Barrel House. Baily's Taproom isn't a brewery but they have enough taps to keep things interesting. Deschutes also has a place on the west side of the river. Ninkasi is pretty reliable for a good beer, and it's available about everywhere.
I'd like to say I live in Portland, but in reality I live in a hotel room somewhere else in Oregon.
