ATN_Pilot Good Morning,

What is the deal with the SWAPA guys voting to not represent the AirTran guys?

Saw it on the other board and looking for clarification, because it makes no sense.

In a strange twist, it seems that the SWA pilots are rebelling against SWAPA's attempts to carve out special categories of members with different levels of rights. The Bylaws that SWAPA drafted would have put us into a separate category of membership that only had the right to vote for the top three executive officers in SWAPA. We would not be allowed to vote on side letters, CBAs, domicile representatives, bylaws changes, etc. Of course, we would still be paying full SWAPA dues. Frankly, I don't even think this is legal. You remember the briefings that we got from the attorneys about how the DOL is very picky about not having different categories of members with different rights. I'm not sure how SWAPA figured they could do it, but the membership shot it down anyway.

They also shot down several other changes that the pilots felt gave SWAPA leadership more power and took away some transparency. It seems that there is not blind trust of SWAPA at all. The pilots are holding them accountable.

Good grief the tranny guys keep getting pineapple raped. I will still never understand why a company that prides themselves on having employees so ridiculously happy to work there can successfully piss off 1/3 of their workforce and couldn't really care less about it.

Well in this case it's not the company who is doing the screwing (though it was the last time), its the pilot group. I've really lost a lot of respect for the Southwest guys. Bunch of douchebags if you ask me.

Wouldn't this no vote be a good thing for the ATN guys? From someone with no knowledge on the subject, it seems like SWAPA is trying to do the screwing, but the SWA pilot group as a whole is trying to be fair?

From what I'm reading, more correctly it's a portion of SWAPA that wanted that, and it's the pilot group in general that voted it down and said 'no'.

Hacker is correct. It's important to draw a distinction between SWAPA and the pilot group at large. SWAPA drafted the bylaws changes, but the membership rejected them (which I think is good for us).

What would the SWAPA try to gain by proposing this? I mean, they are suppose to speak for the pilot group. Also gotta PM you some questions. Joining the OC for the second drive here at B6.

My guess is that the SWAPA leadership is trying to delay representation of the AirTran pilots as long as possible, and they figured that proposing such draconian things would probably lead to a failed vote, giving them an excuse to hold up representation.

Screaming emu- not sure if you are an airline pilot and jumpseat ever, but could you please pass along your name so I can forward it to our jumpseat coordinator. That way you don't ever have to deal with us douchebag SWA pilots!

Really? Did someone get their feelings hurt over a forum post?

A couple personal observations:
1. Calling any group of people "douchebags" is silly.
2. Using the jumpseat as a weapon of retribution is silly.

Therefore I present:

.

Steve - it would be very helpful if you could present a list of people that it would be acceptable to call "douchebag" - kind of like a JC sanctioned list or something

My personal list goes something like this (not in order of douchiness):
1) ATN
2) Jtrain
3) Surreal - because we disagreed a year and a half ago.
4) All liberals.

Thank you!

Maybe we can make a trade.

Succinctness at its finest!

The proposed trade: You agree to only put up one word posts for one week (back to back posts not allowed!) and I'll consider the possibility of maybe putting together an approved douchebag list for potential future publication somewhere.

Deal?
