at least this kind of narrows the window down of when you should look, limiting your options though

haha, 39N is apx 40 min by sky and 2 hours and 40 min by land (and during morning rush, probably longer), or else I would definitely take you up on that, even for just a ride in an RV.

Just an RV?

Fencer - Usually every other week on a Mon or Tues I will fly my boss into 39N and sit around for about an hour and a half before we get out of there. Lets say hello in person next time! Could be as early as this week.

This Tues I'll be there patching fiberglass. Stop by green hangar #3 across FBO.

I posted this in the daily pic, forgot this thread was here, but this was my shot from my cell while at TEB

Fencer, did you manage to catch it?

We got really lucky to be able to see it while we were airborne and on the ground. We were in the DC area (GAI), and we departed probably 5 minutes after the 74 departed Dulles, and managed to basically fly ahead and parallel with it until we got to SWANN and they went to PALEO. It was a good 10 miles from us while we were airborne but we could def see the outline no problem. Then as we were on the ILS at teb the 74 was making it's first pass down the Hudson. Def something I'll never forget

Good shot Mark. I took a young pilot working FBO front desk and we watched all the show by subject aircraft till it landed. Kid enjoyed it, good stick, manipulated controls for 1.5 hours. I am now in VA will post pics after getting back.

I was really lucky. Had just left LGA when NY departure told us to look down the Hudson abeam the empire state bldg and we were able to see it as it flew north. Would have passed right below us but we were in a cloud through about 4,000ft. Without the cloud it would have been perfect timing.

OK, I did it. I had couple warnings not to do it and I never understood why.

There was clearly defined airspace where not to go. Though couple of helos stayed at the edge and pleaded ATC to let them go to the Statue of Liberty.

His call sign was Bobik15 and it was BIG TASK to track him. There was nothing on flightaware. A spotter somewhere in the south texted me something huge flew over him. Next minute I was airborne. Timing was just right the something was approaching the bay.

My copilot Kris works front desk at Princeton Airport 39N. Very good stick and overall pleasant person. If not him I would not make any pictures it was so bumpy. If somebody in the hood come to say hi to Kris. Very promising young man, still in college but working on his instrument rating.

We followed the tandem a bit then were holding over the bay. Shuttle went northbound Hudson River.

We heard Emu screamed in about 15 minutes it ment tandem is on course reversal.

The view was incredible. Escorting T38 looked very sharp.

I made bunch of pictures but many of them not postworthy. 74 slowly turned right and went to the other side. First they will be seen by Pilotforhire then after pass over KEWR by Mark at TEB. All JCers were in NY and vicinity.

Then we asked for a code from JFK and went along the shore 400' under Bravo flipping freqs on standby radio like crazy. Shuttle was returning for a fly by on Kennedy. We hurried up, tower told us to keep farther from the shore and we did.

We were released earlier and enjoyed the freedom. It was his final approach.

Kris got unique opportunity to be in the picture with Space Shuttle Enterprise. Once in a lifetime this happens.

The end of the era.

GREAT set Fencer! That really is the opportunity of a life time. Nice job understanding what the NOTAM said and not being afraid to make it happen. It looks like you guys had a blast.
