Northern Lights @ FL360

Saw them for the first time the other night while flying from Newark to Milwaukee - they were dancing all around. I wish we were a little further north. Camera was set to 5 sec shutter, f3.5 and 6400 ISO. The constant slight rolling back and forth of the plane causes most of the photos to be blurred. I experimented with it while in LNAV and HDG mode, seems to do it in both.

Who cares about the blurriness, your photos are fantastic! I've never seen them in person, but I imagine it's quite the sight.

Wait, wait, let me guess ... EMB-135/-145. :)

Did the trip to PANC and was treated to my first northern lights show.

Did way too many red eyes and checked it out all week mostly VNY TEB. You could barely see it off in the distance to the north.

Thanks for posting the cool shots.

Awesome shots! This winter has been amazing for northern lights. We are getting into a good cycle of solar activity.

Here is a site with Northern lights forecast for the US.

When did you come north? They were great in March and earlier.

Thanks for posting...The tracks (or typical random routings) are usually a bit south of that, but I'll be on the lookout.

I've never seen the Northern Lights as often or as far south as they have been this past winter. It's a real treat for sure. Now if I can only get a better camera to actually record it!
