Ok, I will start by saying I have no hard evidence or written documents to back this up BUT.

There are two check airman the commute to EWR out of BNA with me and both have told me on separate occasions that United will hire between 400 and 500 pilots this year starting in August. I also had a guy, Sim and Ground instructor on the jump seat a few weeks ago who said the same thing. The Instructor also said instructors and check airman are gathering potential candidates information before the windows open and that United Express carrier pilots will be given preference.

Again all of this is hear say but its a fact that less than a third of the United Furloughs are taking recall. Good news for an industry that is hurting right now! Lets hope its true.

So they're going to hire 100 pilots PER MONTH until the end of the year?

I didn't hear any specific numbers, but I have heard the same thing from a captain who had a United guy in the jumpseat. I hope it's true. Let the shortage begin!!!

I had a friend that went to the fltops job fare and the recruiters there were clear about telling everyone they weren't hiring this year.

I hope this is true! Finally those old regional captains will have somewhere to go and will gtfo my seat.

Like I tried to make clear I have not seen anything in writing that says this... But every person I have talked to that has anything to do with the training department at United has said the same thing.

I don't buy it, and here's why:

Hiring 100 people a month is probably somewhere near the max capacity for their training department, even if you're talking about running Denver and Houston at the same time. Heck, it might be OVER their max capacity for training. Combine that with the fact that the majority of training starts slowly, and slowly spools up, combined with the fact that you need to pull basically you're entire training department back off the line and into the school house, which hasn't happened if you're running into these guys while they're commuting to go to work the line, all leads me to believe that it ain't happening.

I've heard 500 total hires for the YEAR, starting from January when they started bringing back United furloughees, which is going to result in 100-200 people being hired off the street. They may eat into those 100-200 by the end of the year, but finish them? I doubt it.

So from a CAL line pilots perspective, yes, there may be 500 people put on the list, but when you've got 1,400 United furloughees to churn through (most of which haven't, and won't take recall, but a number have), the total number off the street is going to be much, much smaller.

Frankly, I wish you were right, but it sounds too good to be true.

The guys that I have run into are check airman, they are going to be on the line no matter what doing Line checks and IOE, the one that was a ground and sim instructor was commuting to EWR to DH to IAH to teach a gorup of united call backs. Either way, there will be hiring THIS YEAR, and it won't stop next year as retirements will start to kick in there.

United retires over 400 next year. United will start hiring very soon and will continue to hire at least the next 20 years

Don't bother getting all worked up about a hiring rumor.. When the listing is posted on their website, then you can get worked up about it! :)

They are going to hire very soon. Its a certainty. Might as well call it advance notice rather than a rumor
