Call Sign

I've only heard the side number used at the boat, and with base (without callsign in that instance). The boat environment simplifies it because side numbers are by squadron, ie 100's being one sqdn, 200's another, 300's another, 400's another, 500's another and so on. 305 implies your squadron just by the leading digit.
 
Also for VFR training flights.

Yeah, I guess I didn't explain training command stuff, but that gets a little more confusing. T-45's for example had like 3 different types of callsigns you would use......one for local stereo routes, one for IFR flight plans outside the local area, and another for det type stuff like El Centro and the boat. Fleet squadrons keep it much more simple as I listed above. Helos may do some weird stuff, but I normally hear them sticking with a similar convention.

Yes, like HT-8s squadron building entrance with the sign that says "The finest helicopter pilots in the world are trained here". Something I think people up the road at Ft Rucker may disagree with......
