Summer Flying

I take the windows off if it is a really bad day. Nothing like jumping in the tug "Dukes of Hazard" style.
Is that allowed? Our fell off a few times so now they are safety wired on so if I catch on fire and pull the emergency window release in the cockpit I'm screwed.

Flew 120+ hours a month in Phoenix. Flights didn't get grounded unless the tower reported 43 degrees or higher. Drank two full bottles of water per 1.5 hour flight. Melted the soles on two pairs of shoes... the ramp was extremely hot.
That's really not all that high of a DA (Phx is about 1500 MSL, right?) compared to what we see in New Mexico on a much cooler day and still safely fly 172's in...;)

I think the concern is more heat stroke/exhaustion than DA, though the latter isn't the be ignored for performance calculations.

Haha yeah I remember my flying days in Arizona... Mid-summer afternoons were better spent in an air conditioned building, swimming pool, or else at 11,000 feet. Just way too hot

Local IA says it is fine, though I've never thought it was hot enough that I needed to. The 1-26 with a sport canopy (no canopy really) would be a similar experience I imagine.

Do what I did when I went to SDL, open the window (c150) haha j/k. I suppose heat exhaustion falls under the IMSAFE checklist.

Flew meat missiles for the summer in a 58' C-182A, definitely a fun summer of flying with going through multiple bottles of water a day. Pay wasn't great but the flying was fun and the people were crazy.

It was a smaller drop zone and I was the only pilot for about half the summer before a couple other guys got hired on and we split the flying. I got right around 65 hours. It was only a weekend operation which was fine with me since I had another better paying job during the week.

If you live in the Northern Indiana area they may be looking for a pilot

how northern? i'll be in the KCMI area (central IL). probably bit of a drive but my dad might start becoming a private pilot so it would be good xc experience lol

KANQ, its basically right where MI, OH, and IN all meet. I'm pretty sure there's jumping out of Rantoul right by you. Wouldn't hurt to check it out.

yeah i've been looking into rantoul, unfortunately one of their head people was injured in a car accidents so they aren't really answering phone calls and emails right now.

Yeaah...I'm looking into going home for a day to make some connections. Lucky for me its only a 3 hour drive but still it takes a whole day doing it.

I wasn't a wet CFI, but I mapped. It's hot, hard work when you're flying and sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate.

I was told to leave them up/closed by our chief tow pilot so I keep them up. One time I did start a takeoff roll without the left one being latched all the way and it fell down a few seconds into the roll. I tried to pull it up once I got some altitude but was struggling a little bit so I just left it open for the whole mile high tow. I liked it though. Reminded me of the Cub. With that though, our season starts next weekend and I am excited to do some towing again!
