are atp graduates of the fast track doing financially well as a cfi?

No. They'll hold that carrot out in front of you forever. Guys that graduated in Nov. still dont have jobs.
Time to sit this one out Pachong. Do you have any personal, first hand experience with ATP, like bkey79? If not, then stop giving opinions from second hand information. It's not helpful and you're wasting your time.

I believe it is $1500/month. At least it was when I was there in Feb '11. I was there for two weeks to the day. I had the Rich Tillery eval flight as well - quite an experience, he's quite a character.

Hello, i'm John and i'm from Central New Jersey. I'm real glad to have found this forum topic as i'm seeing the same questions that I am asking as well with regards to financial stability as graduate of the fast track at ATP. My situation is I definitely want to make my way to the airline industry real fast and I am considering enrolling at ATP for the 90 day fast track course (I already got my pilots license and 125 hours). Right now I am about to joggle with debt from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Univ. WorldWide (BS degree in Pro. Aeronautics) and i'm seriously hoping ATP will work out as that means another set of debt to deal with. If it's all true with what you ATP instructors here are explaining about the income info as CFI at FL or wherever, than I suppose I should be ok as long as I don't become unemployed. I gotta admit, $300 a month for housing is . . not bad, I guess. And that about $2000/month earnings seems ok to be able to get me through. Also if they don't dismiss any instructors after those six months, than great!! I would definitely need to continue employed in order to keep up with my loans. Right now I cannot be eligible for any as I require a co-barrower. The application asks for total house hold income and stuff. I'm just worried that the lender would wind up deducting out of my co-barrowers (step father) retirement or savings account. Otherwise we'd be in trouble for sure. I hope I'll be able to take care of the debt alone.

Wow!! I briefly considered doing this program years ago when it was like 24K, now it has more than doubled and I see here that pay SUCKS. I decided to get a "regular job" and now make WAY more in one week than what you would make in a month. I would not recommend getting that kind of debt period. Of course the next "bubble" to pop is student loans so maybe you default on the loan and file chapter 11...
Get a job and put the money in an interest bearing account and pay yourself for a couple of years then go. All the while start taking lessons at a nearby FBO to make sure this is what you want to do. I found out thankfully I like flying for fun. I travel for work occasionally and do not envy the pilots... I am sure they miss their family as much as I do but I have comfort in knowing my travel requirement is minimal.

Student loan debt never goes away if it's a federal loan. Just want to remind you guys that if you are a 1099 worker, you have to pay your own taxes. So don't count all that money that you make each month as profit. Be smart and set some aside for April 15th.

Curious. If you're a 1099 instructor at ATP, can you set yourself up as an LLC and put most of your expenses/assets into that, thus offsetting your tax liability? You'd end up filing quarterly but that might not be a major problem.

That is what I did when I was a 1099 instructor. You don't need to be an LLC.

You can deduct all of your aviation expenses on your schedule C. That's what I do, don't make enough to justify the expense of a corp entity.

a little late, but there is a post a while back from a guy who says ATP treated him well as an employee. That is very funny. Funny because it is not true or funnier if he believes it. I worked at ATP and had many previous jobs doing all sorts of things working for many types of companies. Not good jobs, but jobs in high school and college and beyond. They do not treat you well. ATP likes 18 year olds because they will believe anything and think that working there is a privilege. Have some self respect and demand to be an employee (ATP instructors are not employees), demand to have time off, and demand to have rules that govern how much you can work. Yes, I still instruct. No, I don't want to work for an airline, not until my demands above are met. ATP has a strange obsession with "the airlines" which continues to baffle me.

Full-disclosure: I never went to ATP. Never worked there, either. Hold a PPL only.

Your experience with them was a negative, and that really sucks - I'm sorry to hear that. There are quite a number of regular folks here who had opposite experiences. They can chime in if they want, but I'm just saying - opinions and experiences with ATP tend to vary.
