canadian grooved runways?

Anyone know where to find if a runway is grooved in canada? I'm not having much luck. The airport takeoff page in the Jep charts doesn't seem to have this info... or are there really no grooved runways up north? I just find it hard to believe that cyyz and cyul dont have grooved runways.

I cant tell you if they completely don't but this is a big factor as to why Trans States Airlines has had two or three birds go off those runways.
I think I may have heard once or twice that Canada just doesn't groove their runways.

I have heard the same thing. Not many runways in Canada are grooved because of the difficulty involved in clearing ice and packed snow out of the grooves. There have been several cases of overruns in rain recently at various Canadian airfields because of it.

If you're really not convinced you could call and solicit the ATC tower for information, they should know.

I ended up calling the towers. cyul 6R/24L is grooved, cyyz isnt. No one (ATC) could tell me where to go to see if a runway is grooved or not.

It can make the difference between a wet vs. dry runway, which can affect runway performance depending on runway length.

My current airline is not affected if its grooved or not but at my last airline (regioanal CRJ-700) it did. We had a GOM revision for if we had a T/R inop and it was not grooved we had some restrictions and if memory serves me right we took a slight penalty in takeoff/landing data if it was not grooved and it was reported wet.

You need to have quite a bit of precipitation fall for a grooved runway to be considered "WET". Depending on your aircraft type and how your company handles performance, it can severely affect your takeoff performance. Currently my company allows us to choose DRY or WET, but if you want to choose WET because of a rain shower just to be a bit more conservative, lets say in a place that gets Monsoon rains (READ:Asia), then all the power to you. The worst case scenario is you list something Dry and it actually is Wet, and then unbeknown to you the dispatcher, your payload can be affected.
