Simple enough, right?

I know it has been covered in the past, but it has been too long.

Do you wear them, or don't you? How about why?

I'll start. I don't!
Used to once, don't anymore. Always forgetting it in aircraft, and I found that I carried around more then I wore it, so I gave up. Besides that I think it made me look like a bus driver. Wish I could do a "Year+ old, slightly worn" refund.

I would if it was required, but it's not (in fact, up until about 3 years ago you couldn't even order one from the uniform company), so I don't. I have my FO hat from the old (pre merger) uniform, but I use that to keep my tie and ID in when I'm home.

When I did take mine on the road, I was often tempted to use mine as a collection plate! ;)

I voted "Never," but also will be appending "Never owned one, either." :)

Also, I'm glad BobDDuck replied first to help me figure out what a "lid" was!

I think more appropriately they're called "covers". One good thing about being on the dark side of the mike is being able to wear same same 9 year old T Shirt I'm wearing now to post this as I was wearing when I showed up this AM. I want to fist bump a freight dawg right about now.

My lids consist of a Detroit Tigers or Red Wings.

Working the backside of the clock is glorious.

I haven't worn one in years. Why? Cause I think it looks dumb and, as a pilot group, we realize we are freight dawgs outside the public view and it's just silly. Funny what happens when, as a collective group, you just say no. Guess the company decided to pick it's battles. Rumor is the new chief pilot has unofficially said off the record it's no big deal and that will soon trickle down to putting it in writing that hats aren't mandatory.

I did, and was planning to even though they are now optional. I think the blazer with stripes looks dumb without one. But when we switched from silver to gold, the uniform company sent me hat hardware that doesn't actually fit my hat, so it is now retired.

Brother, this whole uniform looks dumb. :)

Yeah, I gotta agree that a blazer looks better with a hat. I don't wear my blazer, either. I'm either leather jacket or just the shirt.

HAHA....naw, I gotta wear those pretty brown pants. At least it's all paid for. Now if we could just wear jeans like the Alaska Air or Aloha Air freight guys do (did), that would be sweet.

We don't even have hats as part of the uniform.....so no. We don't have a blazer either; fonz-like leather or "cardigan" are your only choices. In my "super regional" days I didn't wear the hat either. It was optional. People would call you a tool behind your back if you wore the hat, and well, I have a fragile enough ego that I never wore mine ;)

Our leather jacket makes us look like we should be flying for the Luftwaffe in 1943.

I have a 'pilot hat' I got at a costume store for $10 that I sometimes where as a joke. Most of the time its camo ball cap with company logo on it. Sometimes I mix it up and go for the camo ball cap without company logo.

I don't think I have ever seen a UPS pilot wearing a uniform hat.

Didn't even know you had them.
