Salary of a commercial pilot....

Doesn't look like the focus is on 121 operations at all.

The title is incredibly misleading. Its articles like this that fuel the misconception that people who work in aviation are handsomely paid for their skills. I still have a hard time concincing people that ex-Captain makes anything less than $100k per year....heck I cant convince anyone that I MAKE less than $100k per year!

It might not have any bearing in this conversation, but if I were in charge, I would pay you $100k...:)

They need to separate the pay scale I would think. My buddies at Southwest, FedEx for example, make quite a bit more than $120k, twice that in many cases. One of them, 3 times that but he is a senior FO. It is possible to make decent money but it seems specific to certain airlines.

My idiot doctor one time suggested that if I wanted to have more children, that I should go ahead and have them now since I could "afford to stay home with them." When I asked her what she was basing her opinion on she said 'Well, its not like he only makes $20k per year or anything..." When I told her that $20K was pretty accurate, she replied "Well, I though airline pilots started out making like $100k per year."

I looked at her and said "You know, they say the same thing about doctors..."

Do did you have more children? You're an airline pilot?

Soon to be ex is an airline pilot. I was at the "girl doctor". I have to two kids already and she was asking me if I wanted to have any more. I told her that I didnt want to give up my career to stay home with children.

Gotcha...I take it he was not with an airline where the big bucks could be had?

lol. 1st year reserve Captain at a regional. He was making enough for us to survive but the student loan payments pretty much ensured that we were barely hanging on! That first year SUCKED...him sleeping on the floor at the airport, and me hawking crap on ebay for grocery money. Certainly didnt earn enough for me to quit working altogether and start churning out more mouths to feed!
