There is really no official answer with the rule but I myself am affected by this rule and I know numerous people who will not be 23 by the time this rules comes into effect. So is there a going to be a grandfather clause or not.
For instance PSA and Expressjet now say you have to turn 23 by 2013 of August 1. So lets say someone was hired at 19-20 yrs old at expressjet. Is the airline going to kick this person out when the rule comes into effect. This is one of the reasons I have not even applied to an airline because I don't want to be told to go home when I do not turn 23.
And yes I have googled and searched for an answer with no joy. I have even thoroughly analayzed the bill and there is no clause for people hired before the rule. It literally states FO's will need ATP's. So I read this as unless the FAA lowers the age (which the should) all people who can not obtain this degree will be let go. I see no where in the document that says oh well if you don't 23 we will give a year to turn 23.
