Trans States runway over-run. Again.

The Akron incident for XJT was not an overrun. They went off the side for I believe faulty nose wheel steering.

Before we throw stones at TSA for the off road excursions let's look at the airports where they are going, as well as the runway conditions. I can say that I have had some interesting landings at Rochester when there is ice on the runway. I cannot speak for Ottawa but that seems to be a mechanical issue. It is quite unfortunate for those pilots and I wish them all the best in what seems to be a crappy time at their airline.

Has it EVER been a good time to be a TSA?

Nah things are great here! GoJet is growing like a weed, Compass is hiring, and of course, we've got that one seniority list so all of our furloughs can go right to the left seat of the 700.

ExpressJet has been off the runway twice as UAX in 2011. Moline and Akron. It happens.

The jet in Moline was number two to land behind us (about 10NM in trail) the day of the incident. WX was beyond gorgeous and they ended up a longggg way down the runway before they veered off. It's going to be interesting to hear what the actual cause was.

Nosewheel steering runaway. It's a problem in this plane.

The key word is veered, versus overran.

The EMB-145 has a documented problem of pedal-driven nosewheel steering occasionally having a nutty. Hasn't happened to me yet, but we watch videos of Embraer 'demonstrating' it in ground school. Sporty!

Without the TR's is TSA even following min turn times with hot brakes?

Why an airline chose not to get TR's is beyond me as they save brake wear dramtically and I have to believe don't cost as much to change as multiple brake changes.

The USAF, with the KC-135R model, chose to pay more money to have the TRs taken off of the CFM-56s on that bird when that mod was done. Supposedly for weight savings as well as maintenance savings, but I don't know it that's actually come to be true thogh.

Yet at SouthernJets, we are supposed to use idle reverse and auto brakes because the company says it's more cost efficient. Brakes apparently are cheaper than engine wear and tear. Some don't do that,Some do.
Just landed a 757 on 27 at SAN, 6500 feet of runway off the PAPI, LW 196,000 lbs, Vref 135kts, flaps 30, idle reverse, brakes 3, and turned off at B8. It can be done provided the equipment works right. Sounds like those airframes missed their beer can recycle date.

Fish n Chips and a beer on the water at Anthony's. One of my most favorite and missed parts of home.

Imma bout to postflight this cold frosty beverage at Anthony's Fish Grotto on the Embarcadero!

Yum! Lots of great memories of that place. Check out Croce's in the gas lamp district sometime when you have a little extra cash. It's so worth it.

I prefer TRs as well and so does my company. The Clamshell reversers are highly effective at high speeds and we can pull max go around EPR in reverse. Unless it is a short runway we don't need to touch the brakes until under 80. It also speeds up or turn times.

757 definitely has better stops than the ERJ, though. :)
