Virgin America

He's a bro pilot.
Bros pilots have skills.

But seriously, if there are any Virgin pilots or people who have interviewed with them I would like to chat. I have some questions.

Thanks

I had a VA pilot tell me that they don't have a TPIC requirement anymore. I forget what he said for TT... 3500 or something like that?

I sat jumpseat on an Airways redeye with the SFO chief pilot for VA (yes A321 all night up front sucked hard). He told me its straight up 4000TT... no TPIC requirement.

121 experience is highly preferred.

Friend of mine is a Captain over at VA, says it's all about who you know...good internal rec can get you in with 0 TPIC.

Just not sure about that whole SFO based thing...

Correct, TPIC is a preferred number now. I talked to a guy who just got hired there. he had zero TPIC.

How hard are they about the 1000 pic requirement?

I don't know anything about the Bro FO that got on, but I do personally know of a brand new Bro CA that got on with them, and he was hired basically as he was upgrading so no (or hardly any) 121 TPIC in his case.

The only caution I have is that unless you plan on staying at VA for as long as they last, that PIC is something you're going to want to have, for the most part.

Take this from a guy with 13 or 14,000 hours that, if I was looking for alternate employment, that I have nowhere near the PIC requirements of other carriers up the food chain.

Careful, guys. This airline has yet to make any money, and Branson has to keep dumping his own money into it to keep it going. He's going to get tired of flushing money down the toilet at some point. You don't want to be furloughed from an upstart with no PIC time. You'll be back to the regional or 135 game.

True, the risk vs reward is high but i'm willing to take the risk. I think they will do very well and i'm confident that I won't have any regrets.

It's a gamble, no question. I remember when jetBlue started up and we saw their first airplane in BUF. Captain said, "What the hell is that?? Sounds like a dishwasher detergent!"

Who knew?
