Proposed 7% paycut now for Pinncollaba

Guys on the Mesaba board (who should be drinking beer instead of number crunching) put us at losing 20 a month, it's only going to go higher I imagine, once again, are we hiring? prolly not

There was a newhire class in Jan. Only a handful of people though so I wonder if they're having trouble filling the class? I haven't been to the schoolhouse for a few months so I'm not sure what exactly is going on down there.

I was surprised by the amount at the bottom of the list that left (2-3 a class going back to last summer). List went from 2972 to 2918 total. 85 total have left since the last SLI if I counted correctly? Right at that 20/month.

Class was mixed with transitions/upgrades. Believe a full new hire class starts February 5, but sounds like they're desperate for bodies.

With 11-09, sim space is at a serious premium. That's way guys are sitting at home for months getting paid. They've been removed from their previous category, but there's no room in the sim to train them. I ran into FIVE -900 check airmen in the hotel in YUL doing checkrides on the -900. It was like they transplanted Flight Safety from MEM to Canada. They're apparently hurting for -200 guys in DTW. They keep sending out CrewTrac messages reminding us there are trips in open time, but they aren't to the point of offering 200% yet. There's a TDY that's taking care of some of it. Why they don't just take some of the reserves sitting in JFK and MEM and DH them up there is beyond me. "Back in MY day" that's what they did. I was answering the phone "When does my DH for DTW leave?" for a month. 99% of the time, it was accurate.

The problem is they tried to fix their shortfalls with one vacancy and bit off more than they could chew. Now, they're having to pay bypass pay, overtime and other assorted penalties involved. But, hey. It's gotta be those damn greedy pilots (and now FAs I guess, too), right? If they had run a smaller 11-09 (maybe just the displaced Saab stuff) then a 11-10 and 12-01 instead, it may have gone better.

There was a handful of people with Jan 3 DOH at the bottom of the list... that would indicate a newhire class wouldn't it?

Is that in the fenced Mesaba operation? Or maybe they've just been sending messages to captains? For -200 FOs in DTW we had a ton of reserves this month and several of my friends have said they hardly worked at all and I even know of one reserve that didn't work at all.

I keep getting CrewTrac messages telling me there are DTW CA trips in open time. No mention of 200%, but it may just be CAs and not FOs. That's pretty much the same story I'm hearing from FOs in all the -200 bases. Same for a lot of the CAs on reserve, too.

Not sure why they didn't use 11-09 to properly staff the Captain seats but I wonder about alot of things they did.

They are.

Unfortunately for scheduling, the minimum connection times keep them from deadheading a crewmember and have them run across the terminal to get the flight out somewhat 'on time'. Therefore they have to plan ahead for open flights, something that they do not do well in that department.

Therefore, they resort to out of domicile reserve. That allows us to change our contact period to whatever we choose, it can only be for so many days... a real can of worms, especially if you choose P3. From my 'insider info', I am hearing that they are denying contact period changes for OOD reserve recently. Shocking that scheduling is not wanting to follow the contract.

EDIT: Speaking of not following the contract reminds me that for the past year, reserve pilots have not been able to verify if the bucket list is being used correctly. I have my doubts from this past month.

However, I am hearing that the 'transparency' issue is going to be discussed and hopefully resolved soon.

Congrats to Kellwolf, Cruise, and Tram. I know Kell and I can say that I'm happy to see one of the good guys at the company getting s good opportunity!!!

As to where people are going, it seems like anywhere. Some out of aviation. Some to JetBlue, Spirit, etc. I left in December for Corporate. Passed training on December 20 and I've been gone from home a total of 6 days since then. So happy I'm salary, but I already kinda miss flying lol.
