Bathroom Breaks

Just curious how you pilots who don't have bathrooms get through the day...

I know most airline pilots have bathrooms available or sometimes their own lav in the flight deck. How about the ones who fly cargo at night, or on small commuters with no bathrooms? I've heard of legendary stories of people taking mid-air dumps... but what happens when you really are stuck on a plane with no bathroom and you have to go #2?

My longest leg at skyway was about 2:10 and, well, you develop a 2:30 bladder! :)

Can't comment on 135/91 freight at night, but plenty of 4.0's in the 414 and other twins...

Rule # 1: Don't take female pax.
Rule # 2: Just don't go.
Rule # 3: Pay is fecal already - might as well add realistic scents to it.

I developed a good bladder while working for Pictometry, generally logging 5.0 at a time without going.

I always had a large mouth powerade bottle ready to go just in case though :D

Large mouth huh? If you are flying people around in a you can always make a pit stop.

True story.

In a previous life, a co worker had to... morning constitution while on a flight. It took a while to get a relief flight up, so he took matters into his own hands. Apparently a lunch box can be used for other things then food.

Guys have to be careful though. I know a MU2 pilot who was flying from California to TN nonstop, yes he had a kicking tailwind, he had planned on making a stop for fuel in Tulsa but when he saw that he could make it tried to push it all the way, even disregarding calls from his bladder. Turns out his bladder burst over KLIT, had to divert and spent the next year on the ground after multiple surgeries. IF YOU HAVE TO PEE YOU BETTER PEE!

I agree with Drew, when ya gotta go, ya gotta... go...
Longest flight I did as an instructor was 4.5 hours. I knew it was gonna be a long one(thatswhatshesaid) so I went before, and brought a bottle just in case. I didn't have to use it, but I was pretty close...

Routinely did 6.0 doing Picto work. A head call (sitting down) was always the last preflight item. It seemed like all the guys got into that habit.

i have heard of former pilots popping the door open while taxiing in and going there

legs for me are 2.0 or less normally so no issues here

I'm going to design a toilet for the smaller planes without anything. It would be like a chair cushion, but it has an opening for the waste. I might even add a small hose so said waste could be pumped out through a window or something without stinking up the plane. I'm going to be rich!!!!

One of the MU2's I flew had an evacuation tube in the back that you could pee in, simply used the pressurization to push it out through the bottom

Gatorade bottle works like a charm. Two hours on the ramp with a thermos waiting for ups makes it a necessity. Single pilot cockpit with autopilot makes it easy.

For long trips you may have to monitor what you eat and drink and when. But I'd rather not dehydrate myself just to make long flights as I can feel my performance suffer when I am dehydrated.
