Interview Recap

Well Folks,
I am back from my 4100nm trip in 48hrs(all on the east coast). Kudos to those that live out of their suitcase!

Pinnacle-
  • Roundtrip airfare provided by them
  • Ground transportation to their office located in downtown MEM also provided by Pinnacle
I met with the recruiter and took a small quiz on general dispatcher knowledge(30min time limit). Sat down with the Mgr of Dispatch and Recruiter and had the typical job interview(PM me if you want to know more). I was then given a tour of the dispatch floor. Then back off to the airport.

Miami Air-
  • Pay own way to MIA
  • Put up in Holiday Inn right across street from corp offices at their rate.
I sat down with the HR rep and was given an overview of the company and the benefits. Had to fill out a paper application. Meet with the Mgr of Dispatcher and was also given a quiz(untimed)(again PM if you want to know more). Interview was more of a conversation feel than tell me about time when.... Was given a tour of the office met a few people and then it was back to the airport. Overall very personable group of people.

Oh! Atlas Air left a voicemail while inflight and have a phone interview with them on Fri. More to come...

Dude, that's awesome. I need to head back to MIA and finish up my ADX course ASAP. If offered both jobs, which one are you going to take?

1. Atlas
2. Miami Air
3. Pinnacle
International experience is always going to help you out in the long run. You will get some domestic experience while working for these companies.

If I get an offer from all 3 then I most likely will have them ranked in the same way that Planefan82 does.

Just got off the phone with Pinnacle and they are putting together an offer letter for me. Talk about a time crunch....to pack up and move to MEM from MHT by Jan 9 and not have a place yet?? Seems a tad close for comfort if ya ask me

I'll at least look over the letter

That's like 2-3 weeks. I'm guessing you don't know anyone there or the area very well? That does sound like a "get it together quick" situation. Yea, I would at least take a look at the letter as well.

Good luck

I don't think its not knowing the area moreso as moving there and then find a decent place to live vs already having the living arrangements taken care of before the move.

Pinnacle does do a lot of Class II navigation routes in the Carribbean and we have planned redispatch as well. Word around the office is that Delta wants to bring back St Croix, Guadalajara and several other Mexican and Central American cities that are operated with flag and planned redispatch rules. Its not oceanic experience but its more international experience than most of the regionals have.

Heard rumors Pinnacle may be filing Chapter 11 next year - just something to keep in mind. I can find a link to the news article if anyone wants it.

One more thing, starting the first week of January Mesaba will come to MEM and be Pinnacle. However, they will still be using Mesaba dispatch systems and dispatching Mesaba aircraft though it is all branded as Pinnacle flying. Eventually, the Mesaba dispatchers will be fully merged into the 9E group. Mesaba and Pinnacle have two very different systems and training. Pinnacle has a lot of weight and balance training since dispatch does all the weight and balance at 9E but Mesaba dispatch doesnt do that.

Im not sure if they are hiring for a Pinnacle class in January or a Mesaba class to fill any spots left by Mesaba guys that dont come down from MSP.

Congrats on the job offer man.
Anyone know what the Atlas pay scale is like? Enough to live in NY??

Atlas is starting out around the ballpark of 45K a year. It is a really good gig. 45 is not much money to live in NY, but it is doable.

Thanks, any idea what they top out at? Or what the diff is between dispatcher 1 2 and 3 is? Their add says dispatcher 1 2 and 3?

Was checking the average price of homes in Purchase, NY (I believe that's where Atlas is located).....$1,143,400

o.O

Lol wow really? I know nothing about purchase NY besides what Wikipedia says about it which isent much, didn't think it was a ritzy area

I do not know where they top out out. The difference between Dispatcher I,II,III at the company I work at is pay rate, and how much experience you are bringing to the table. Typically it not JUST overall dispatch experience. If you have heavy jet, ETOPS, and international experience, along with maybe some experience with the 747's, then you are eligible for the other positions.
--For those wondering about Purchase, it is not the fact that you are looking for a house in the town of Purchase. It is the fact that it is located in Westchester County. It is one of the more expensive counties in the area of New York City. It is just far enough away from NYC that you are not living in a concrete jungle, but close enough to the city that you can benefit from using Mass Transit (Metro-North) to get into Manhattan. Purchase is also close to HPN, and one of the richest parts of CT. All the homes are mansions.
