This just in, Good NEWS!!

After careful consideration we have determined that the reduction in duty/flight time will bear to much of a economical impact to an already fragile U.S. airline system. We have decided after looking at the current safety record that crews flying around fatigued is an acceptable risk for the paying public.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Theres not going to be near the number of furloughs that there would have been.

This...at least at most of the - usually referred to as - reputable companies.

These companies may quickly find themselves with the appropriate number of bodies.

The element most people overlook is really how the schedules are built, pairing composition, and levels of productivity.

We need to see how our oil salesmen management types will find a way to manage this.

Airlines already beg for government subsides... you're saying we need to beg better? Maybe pay off a few senators? Will airline exec's have to give up their mansions in England to do this? Tough decisions.... better give those guys a tax cut so they are motivated to think harder and better.

All I'm saying is that we may have made a big win with this. However, we shouldn't cheer just yet until we manage our expectations with our inept crew planning departments.

Eh, I have some sympathy for them on that one count, at least the mainline "partner" I work for. It is impossible to reconcile the Delta Shuffle into any sort of planning model.

link or source to this news? are still talking just 121 only for now? (yes i see airline pilot forum)

Details "should" be out tomorrow afternoon. But considering the speed, and fluidity, of bureaucracy tomorrow afternoon could easily be never. o_O

His source is accurate. Seggy and I have a conference call tomorrow to get the details. It's looking like a mid-afternoon release time. No inside info just yet, but the legislative affairs guys are working to collect info ahead of the release as best possible.

I'll believe it when my company sends out the customary..."ZOMGS...we are going out of business TOmORRoW if you don't take concessions!!" or "ZOMGS! We have petitioned the FAA for a 3 year extension because 3 year implementation time is just not feasible for us to do."

Okay I guessed I missed something, so how does a shortened or lengthened duty day affect the fact that airline pilots are still required to retire at age 65? Or are they changing it to 75 now? >sarcasm<
